From my understanding of the DUST 514 newsletter, CCP wanted to get as many people as possible into the BETA in order to stress test there multiple severs. They even made a in game incentive to show up for the event 1 000 000 sp
RESULTS At the peak there was about 1500 people and this is a big stretch Over 10 000 all time beta passes where handed out + gods knows how many temporary passes, and the best we got 1500 people
So CCP do you really think your severs got stress tested to full capacity???? They had more people in at the beginning of this build than they did last night. The problem is that there is nothing new to entice testers to come in and give it a go. There is a little hard core of testers left, who are trying to get into Proto gear to try that out. All the casual players tried it, most liked it, but got bored of playing the same little map over and over again. And I guess most of those 10.000 beta keys have expired, they were limited keys if I recall. Personally, and the eve players are gonna yell at me for saying it, but I think this game is to complicated for a lot of people. Its like a girl with wooden leg complete turn-off
we eve players collect corpses, so a woman with a wooden leg, thats a good 30 billion isk, a rare item in eve lol
1500 players, thats good. i can remember eve online having a max 10,000 PCU now it has what 60,000+. over in eve ccp have a test server ( a mirror copy of the eve universe ) when we do test days we can get a max 1000+ , roughly the same as dust, but those tests results give ccp a huge window into how players affect server.
we make choices a very clever AI could not, spur of the moment stuff. dust is the same those 1500 people were doing different things, not all just primary on a single target, but multi mini skirmish battles. it all adds up to informative data for ccp. if they scale up that 1500 and also scale the outcome those players had on servers they get a rough idea of what the dust servers can handle, and where possible bottlenecks/upgrades may lay.
more players when beta first released, there is a saying for this " the brian cox" syndrome something cool comes along and bam everyone wants a piece, those avid enough will stay around, those others play a few times and move on. |
