SUPPORT YOUR ******* TANKS!
As much as a tank is hell on wheels when the enemy uses them right, they ARE your best friend when they are on your side.
Tanks CAN go in and take out opposition strongholds. They CAN guard objectives while they are being hacked. They CAN win your game.
They CAN NOT do this while being forced to hide from drop ships nobody are shooting at. They CAN NOT do this when being slaughtered by Swarm Launchers or Forge Guns that are allowed to run without opposition.
They CAN NOT do this ALONE!
Tanks are by and large INCAPABLE of defending themselves from close up infantry. They need a drop ship, and/or infantry to cover them from that.
We do fairly well at distance, but up close our slow turning speed, and turrets can not handle infantry, and our turrets have trouble hitting anything that close. And we have that bloody blind spot on out rear left, courtesy of some lobotomised design choice.
Edit: Subject line, The previous one might have been a little too insulting... (was: Dear CoDfish, MAGpies and likeminded FPS jockys.) |

As much as you hate tanks, don't punish the ones that are on your side. That is a quick way to lose the round.
Also to Drop ships, see a friendly tank, stick to it, you are BOUND to have a horde of enemy targets converge on that, which will equates to LOTS OF TARGETS. |

FFS, stop whining about people complaining about the things you like.
And while you claim you did read my post, did you actually READ my post? You probably just saw my name, and the word Tank" and saw red.
I AM SUGGESTING AN IMPROVEMENT TO TEAM PLAY, THE VERY THING DUST IS SUPPOSED TO BE ALL ABOUT! |

Garrett Blacknova wrote:Basically, this thread says "protect me from the things I'm weak against" - and that's a core element in teamplay.
When I see a tank and it's not REALLY obvious it's being driven by a complete incompetent (by "incompetent" I mean "why are there six pedals when there are only four directions?" levels of incompetence), I stay nearby with a Swarm Launcher, AR, SMG or Shotgun and a Repair Tool.
Tank drivers tend to quite like having me nearby. Or as a gunner.
And in the rounds where people do this, both the tank and team benefits. The tank may still die, but before that, the team rank up a hellish amount of WP 's and kills, the chances of winning is improved, and the tank is not always #1 on the final scoreboard. The gunners and supporters are. |

When its only 1 guy with AV gear and you're able to easily kill him because he doesn't have the support of his team. We don't even have flux grenades, vehicle homing AV grenades, electronic warefare, grouping, 1.2 mill bare tank hulls yet. there are going to be so many underpowered tank QQ threads next patch. When a weapon gets abused its gets re-balanced, see SL, HMG, RE, and now the tank. Tanks are meant to be strategic valuable assess that carry a significant monetary risk but incredible offensive and defensive capabilities. They shouldn't just be continually called in one after another because some guy just likes tank combat, If someone is going to do that he should be paying a significant price.
So now Teamwork is bad?
And yes, some are calling in tank after tank, and I don't see how they can afford it. On a GOOD round, I MAY brake even if I loose my tank. Just ONE of them. I've never made enough ISK on one round to pay for two, and with the current level and amount of AV weaponry out there, I rarely survive one round with my tank. It is not top tier Armour tanked either, I do like to have a gun on it too. |

I complain about bad teamwork in general.
I don't feel too bad losing a tank or a fight to good teamwork, it still hurts of course, but not nearly as much as it does to a noob with a pack of RE's and a Forge Gun who got lucky and caught me on an armour repairer cooldown. |

Dewie, your fit is just ugly though, there's no point supporting you when the first properly built Sagaris 2 shots your pants tank. How about you support the infantry superman? I'm bored of whining tankers saying "30-0 isn't good enough, buff my tank" "lampposts killed my tank" or "tanks aren't op, don't Nerf them" Seriously, tankers are pathetic when they don't use gunloggi's ect. I agree with Sha.
And I am sick and tired of SL and FG players who have to resort to slander and name-calling whenever anyone suggests that their weapons might be a little overpowered for the current build.
I didn't even do that in this post, yet morons will feel the need to point fingers and try to bring even serious, or forthcoming posts they don't like down to their level of intellect.
I don't have the strongest (HP or DPS) tank on the field. and I don't get 30-0 KDR's. But a Surya is what it is, and in generally have the choice between High DPS/Low HP and High HP/Low DPS. "Stupid" me for trying to use the beta to test a compromise that can take some damage, while be able to have a chance of killing for instance a Sagaris, if I get the first few shot. And I do. Sometimes. |

That is mostly the Sagaris', as they don't have an Armour repairer on them. However both sides have to learn team play, not just infantry obviously. The best way to help though, is to kill enemies that get too close, or start shooting at the tank with AV weapons. And as a bonus, the infantry that does are bound to get a few extra kills, as enemies tend to flock around tanks. The longer it lives, the more eager they seem to get to kill it = Targets of opportunity. Of course when people start learning how to play DUST better, those tactics will change with it. |

HowDidThatTaste wrote:A tank is to support infantry not the other way around. Especially not a selfish tank driver who is only after his own kills. A tank driver should not destroy resupply depots but they do all the time. A tank should have at least one guy who will get out of the tank to flip an objective. I can't tell you how many times a tank is sitting by an objective for half the game and never caps it.. Tank drivers should be where the battle is protecting the infantry not the infantry protecting the tank, that's just the dumbest thing I've heard yet. Your inside a heavy metal vehicle we are in pajamas compared to you and we should lay down our lives to save you. Ridiculous
Tanks and infantry are supposed to support each other.
And there is a VERY good reason the tank driver don't get out and caps an objective. Some players see an empty tank, and think "YAY! FREE RIDE!" A do not pay 269k ISK for a tank, just to see one of my gunners run off with it and get it blown up.
If you see a tank sitting at an objective, not hacking it. Go and hack it while the tank is covering your back as best as he can, preferably before the enemies swarm all over him. |

Of course things will change, a lot of them I assume. The missing teamwork aspect is hopefully one of them. CCP will draw inspiration from EVE, though they are bound to simplify matters somewhat for DUST, as they already have. The general idea is that you rarely do well with just individual roaming. You have to build not just a tank, or an infantry suit, but match both to be able to support each other in order to achieve a common goal.
All the while they need to be able to accommodate the more casual players with the NPC organized battles, which I assume will be not entirely unlike the Skirmish and Ambush modes we have now. |
