OP. We grok the same grok. As do others. Agree with you more I could not.
My honest opinion is that if CCP doesn't break our hearts and dumb DUST down(more than its already been dumbed down from EVE), then only 5% of visitors to New Eden's scenic and friendly planetary surfaces will stay. And that's ok by me.
I think that still works as a business model. 5% of the fps fanbase(for now on PS3) is a big enough number, and DUST will pull from other genres also. And peeps will absolutely spend money.
So while I'm afraid the sheer volume of whining on the forums will somehow infect the zeitgeist at CCP, in my heart of hearts I feel that our Viking coders will not falter. It would be like a mighty pagan warchief at the height of his powers converting to the way of the cross and committing all of his bloody plunder to the construction and financing of an alms-house for idiots.
But stranger things have happened, which is why I'm on these forums. |

What you say might be true, so long as the game doesn't support any kind of deep thinking.
Modern FPS developers are all about chasing the filthy lucre, and will happily whoooore any values they have for a .5% boost to market share. The problem is that the only way to appeal to the masses is to appeal to the masses, which leads straight to the lowest common denominator. The way they do this is by pushing your monkeybuttons - think cheeseburgers, pawrn, and status tokens($).
To stretch my lame example, the modern FPSs you guys want us to accept are cheeseburger-pawrn, served up for mindless consumption. CCP is in the process of cooking up for you range-fed antibiotic-free mind-beef, served with organic wisdom-veggies and a side of backbone-Hakarl. Unfortunately your inner-city kid fastfood-gimped FPS souls are telling you that the feast being laid out in front of you is just weird and gross and wrong.
The question is, are you growing weary of standing in line with the rest of the herd waiting to pay for your next McFPS? |
