Now this is a bit tricky to figure out so heres the question.
Does a nanofiber fitted vehicle seem to deliver more damage at full speed vs an armor plated one?
Your thoughts or suspicions about this.
My Experiments
Terms Nanofibers - A module that decreases mass and increases speed Afterburner - A module that doesnt exist yet but when activated should dramatically increase speed. Armor Plates - A module that signifcantly increases Armor HP but at the cost of more mass.
Variables Pilot - Militia Default Heavy Shock - Used to determine quality of target post bailout. Feather - A gallente military grade dropship with 4 lows, all fitted with nanofibers all four are 14% armor penalty and 15% speed increase, stacking penalty is invovled amongst the four. New Max Speed is about 14.4 m/s Brick - A gallente miltiary grade dropship with 4 lows, with current skills can only fit 3x 60 mm plates which has a 'mass penalty' of 15% each not subject to stacking 'penalty'.
Guided Collision - Basically the dropship is manned though the entire collision. Unguided Collision - Dropship is aimed at the target and bailed out in the last possible moments. Tagets - Any unfourtunate HAV I can find, I test quality of the target afterwards if and when possible.
Now you might be wondering why guided and unguided collisions matter? I can partially attest that unguided collisions seemingly do much more damage, this may be in part of that with no pilot dropships accelrate beyond safe speeds. For example its really difficult for a dropship that been shoved off vs one flying down chasing it to catch up to the one dropped
Flight Characteristics
Feather - Shes certainly feels light weight, agile, and extremly nimble abel to turn on a dime weave between poles fly under the pipes no problem and is extremly responsive to controls and handles slightly better than 'stock' dropships. Thus named feather.
Brick - Is not so far off from its namesake, Its slow sluggish slow to respond and flying it almost feels like you are trying to push this thing from the outside on ice at times. It seems to get up to the miinmal evasive speed of 10m/s but getting there takes a while. Brick also has such great difficulty gaining altitude and the only way to do it is to orbit foward with nose high up as possible. Where as feather can just float up while staionary. The highest brick can go while stationary is slightly lower than loiter barrier which barely clears the wearhouses on platue map. Brick will also lose a signficant amount of height if you increase the angle of attack too much in order to try to a faster gain speed.
Targets/Results
Feather Guided - Gungoli, poorly fitted, collision at full speed did seem to do absoltuely no damage, Destroyed Tank with Milita swarm launcher no lock.
Soma, poorly fitted, collision at full speed did some noteable damage, additional damage from dropship explosion, Destroyed Tank with milita swarm launcher one reload no lock.
Comm Tower Test 1, full speed nose on collision, death on impact to the tower, Test 2, full speed nose on collision, no damage...
Feather Unguided - Sagaris, well fitted, collision did about a 'quater' of the shields off. Milita Launcher barely did any additional damage.
Brick Guided - Grimeses - Uncertain results or gauging, hostile dropship did not survive the collsion with the brick shortly followed by the wearhouse.
Brick Unguided - No collisions yet all targets so far managed to 'dogde' or I did not properly aim the ballstic collsion.
Summary currently inconclusive need more targets. Server being picky is making testing more difficult.
Cost of Experiment
1.2 million isk so far. |

Well began expermenting with the oh so expensive dropships. Heres are a few interesting things I found out.
BTW you are right this is expensive but rather spend the 2 million isk I have now twoards figuring this out than mcuh later when vehicle prices go up.
From this point on Dropship A with nanofibers shall be refered to as the Feather
From this point on Dropship B with armor plates shall be refered to as the Brick.
Feather is freakishly fast and agile able to turn on a dime easily and go from full speed to a stop abit abruptly. With 4 nanofibers she can outfly swarm missiles so fast that if you where both at invasion point shell beat the missiles to defender point by the time the missiles are about over the pipes. Feather does not like hitting stationary object though, a small hit can one shot her from any structure just about.
Pilot - Default Shock Trooper should be a good test on how well the fitted the tank is, a badly fitted tank would die to a semi-competent AV guy with a milita launcher.
Guided though Impact strikes - a poorly fitted gungoli and soma, milita launcher took them both out after departing. Guided hits seem to do much less damage.
Unguided Impacts - a well fitted sagaris, took out 24% of this shields off, the dropship explosion took a bit more off but not much, then it blew me up to bits, swarm launcher did connect but did no noticable damage.
Brick definetly does feel the mass quite alot. Unlike most normally fitted dropships brick has an extremly difficult time gaining altitude while stationary, the only way to increase it is go a semi fast speed mainting a high level of attack (basically dont point the nose or tail downard) Brick also extremly difficult to fly and takes one heck of a beating but the difficult to fly part is what is making these experiments hard to perform.
Guided Targets - One dropship, didnt get damage tally nor kill points, caused target to crash. Unguided Targets - None have yet to hit any tagets with a drop ship on ballstic course. |

Was is manned?
If it wasnt none of the bonuses against damage pervention applies is likely the culprit. |

Where you stationary or where you mobile or how about the direction of the impact? where you and him going the same direction? |

I had a big wtf moment there.
You're just lucky I didnt have my near max protofroge with complex damage mods :P
Also that I missed your ship twice trying to ram you. Was going for a strike from the side. |

Well if you are going to go that far share some results if you can, How you fitted your ships and the 'quality' of the target. A badly fitted sagaris for example will lose alot more shields than it should if hit it with milita swarm launcher

Did more testing last night to... well.. no damage, I blame server inconsistency last night.
Why do I know this you ask?
I have a hard time explaining why one time Ill fly feather straight into the comm tower full speed and explode dead on impact. But yesterday I did the same thing and no damage.
Current testing has exhausted all scientific funds will hold fund raisers today and next weekend to try again. |
