Was in a game earlier and noticed something quite, different, than I thought this would have worked. Was starting at attackers base, swarm launcher in hand. Then noticed a viper circling overhead. Put out a full clip while he circled. Guess what. Not one burst hit. Then as he circled, 2 more attackers pulled their swarm launchers out. Now 3 of us targeting him as he circles, and not a single shot hits him. They all detonate away from him, almost as if he is launching chaff or flares. Interesting how if you circle a target, you can "outrun" swarm launchers. You go full speed across the map, you get blown out of the sky. Not sure if this is working as intended, but just wanted to toss that out there.
So if you're a pilot, just circle your point, have a cru onboard and let everyone just bail from there. You won't get blowed up. Not much fun, but, a tactic none the less. |

It's a viable tactic. You can outrun swarm missiles in LAVs if you are a good driver, as well. Just have to keep your speed above the swarm's speed. |

What kind of threw me for a loop was that the missiles detonated without doing damage to him. But any other flight path, they don't explode until they hit something. |

I've been able to hit circling targets. You have to fire at the right time and on the right angle to make your shots intercept them, and at long range it's more difficult, but it can be done. |

Greetings,

If you are talking about my Myron last night, yes, your missiles did damage me, but my shield regen and damage resistance are high enough that it only looked like they did no damage. For lower grade Swarms, I usually just let them hit me and regen it within a few seconds.
As for Swarm missiles against an orbiting DS, Garrett is right, there is a trick to it.... I can't really explain it, other than to say do not fire directly at your intended target, use the off-bore capabilities of the SL to fire above or below the target. In my experience that is the only way to hit the orbiting DS.
For DS pilots, if you see the Swarm coming at you, run away and then start doing slew turns until you can get into a decent orbit, or can duck behind a structure. Please note that this also works against regular missiles at range.

Interesting. Guess I will have to play with my Myron on my other char to see how to make that work. Thanks for the tip. :-) |

If you are ever without a gunner and trying to take out an opposing DS... Land on top of them offset 90 degrees.... Switch to your left gun and just shoot down into them. :) Some DS pilots grow a few brain cells and jump out of their ship to try to kill you from the ground, but you have a turret that is already pointed in their general direction. ;)
EDIT: Did that to two DS this morning actually. ;) |
