Now hopefully I just couldnt find my old thread... I dont want to assume it got deleted.
My confusion is that I am paying to play a incomplete game that will soon be free once it is complete. I had obtained a key from IGN, and played for hours upon hours of this magnificent game until I was notified that my key had expired, and if I wanted to pay $20 for a merc pack, I can continue playing the beta.
One user responded to my last thread saying that CCP is a business after all, and I understand that. The second user however, was adamant that I was paying for exclusive in-game items that would carry over into the final released game, and that "it just includes access to the beta"
Which leads back to my main point, why charge players, who want to make this F2P game the best it can be, $20 to play the BETA? I know that there is more included in the Merc Package but I am solely focusing on the beta access. I understand that it is a CLOSED beta, but it is still a time for testing, rebalancing, etc... and from my perspective it would be more beneficial to have alot of feedback from players who will play this game than just from players who are willing and able to pay 20 bucks.
So I'll ask once more, why charge $20 to be able to play a beta for a free to play game?

You're not paying for the beta, you're paying for the pack. The beta is just a bonus. It's actually kind of a good deal, you get to spend it twice. |

Don't think of it like that dude. Just think of it as the beta is free to play, and the $20 gives you a head start on full release. Permanent drop suit (with better stats) that will save you from using militia suits (until you gain enough isk). 4,000 aurum that you will be able to use as you like, whether its purchasing modules and dropsuits or vehicles and turrets..........OR use it to trade with eve players/dust players for double/tripple/quadruple the amount of regular isk assets. all in all.....it is a good deal. just swallow your pride bro and get the merc pack, I guarantee you won't regret it.
PS. You get to reuse the aurum each new build, it gets refunded. Until the final release when they will refund it for the last time. |

Once again you are not paying for beta access. You are paying for a starter pack that comes with bonus closed beta access. The merc pack will be able to be purchased after release as well but the beta access will not be included. |

I think the 4000 aur on its own will cost $20 even after release, then you get a bunch free equipment bpo and bpc. |

this. if only ppl would look at the bigger picture 30-day skill booster + 4000 AUR + bunch of other stuff is what ur paying for, buying it now instead of release just grants u beta access
think of it like the pre-purchases gams like GW2 did where they had u pay for the full game before release and as a bonus for those that did that they got into the beta, same thing here u pay off for the merc pack before release and get early beta access |

It's 19.99 for 5k Aurum also don't forget the 30 day skill booster that's worth another 3200 aur if you wanted to buy skill boosters with aur to equal that so just the 4k plus that is worth 7200 aur and there will be a wipe before launch but if for some reason they do anymore while testing all item's and aur will be refunded.
I had full beta access already but bought the merc pack anyways good deal plus it show's some love for CCP who i have been a fan of for a long time.
BTW the beta access is a bonus just like other's have said no your not paying for access it's called a perk for buying the merc pack now |

Merc Pack 4,000 Aurum Hacked Drop Uplink HK4M Shotgun Focus Locus Grenades Dragonfly "Scout" Dropsuit 1.5dn Myofibril Stimulant 30 - Day Active Skill Booster "Toxin" ICD-9 Submachine gun
Freaking awesome, great value for 20 bucks.
"ALL ACCESS" BETA PASS = flags raised.
DUST 514 is completely free-to-play on the Playstation-«3 and PlayStation-«Network. - http://www.dust514.com/game/free-to-play/
Do you see how this is contradictory? An "All Access" Beta Pass is included in a $20 package, but the game is free to play.
Does anyone understand me? Although the game is free to play when it is released, I have to pay $20 to play the beta, PLUS a bunch of cool stuff. I dont mind the cool stuff, but I am puzzled as to why in order to play the beta whenever I want I have to buy my "All Access" Pass
It would be better to remove the pass and let everyone play, as more people will buy the merc pack for its awesome content. |

No its clever marketing.
Instead of saying, "Hey, buy this invitation to the beta and get all of this free stuff', its "Buy all of this stuff and get invited to the beta".
Had it been the other way around, people would be as confused as I am. |

Look!!!!! There are alot of free to play mmo's out there that also cost to some level. DC universe online is a prime example. Its free to play but also you have the option to pay money to buy gear etc etc etc. if you don't want to pay for bonuses then don't, wait til the game comes out then you won't have anything to complain about |

All access just refers to you can play it ANY weekend, rather than on 1 weekend out of 2. They're giving away TONS of free keys through tons of things, some of them 1 weekend passes, other multiple weekend passes. And actually, they're advertising it as: Buy 4000 aurum (approximately $18), this ton of stuff, and other permanent stuff for use in the full-game... and we'll let you play this beta every weekend too for sponsoring us, developers of the game, with $20. And its actually an Add-on, and the beta is just a bonus. To my knowledge, you can get it AFTER the beta, but if you get it NOW then you get this stuff AND the beta access. It is a CLOSED beta also, so only people they SELECT are allowed in.

It's the same as pre-order games at gamestop. Buy "Gears of War 3 now and get exclusive game content", that type of thing. The all access beta key is what lures some people in I'm sure, but that isn't really what you're buying. I mean, I know CCP put it in there because they knew they'd make more money, but the pack is just as much for the current testers, as it is to draw in new ones. |

you dont HAVE to pay to get in, there is also the element of luck, i was lucky enough to get a all-access before and i still bought the merc pack because it was good value for what i got.
If you dont want to pay then just wait to full release and you will get your cake, till then either play and stop whining or just quit and wait till launch. |

I got in a long, long time ago, and I bought the merc pack, and so far about 40 dollars worth of aurum, and will probably buy more before the beta ends. no one forces anyone to buy anything, we do what we want. Seriously, are you that guy from Jeuxvideo.com ? Cause you clearly have an understanding disorder there lol.
When you pre-order a FPS. More often than not now you get acces to the "beta" (demo...) two weeks before all other PSN users can get in. And more often than not, this pre-order package contains map packs or a shiny weapon. And it's the reason why you buy it. Not the early two weeks access.
There, it's the exact same thing. You buy the pack and it gives you a nice starting gear when the game is released : => booster, BPO scout suit, BPO Smg, grenades, drop uplink, etc.... AND the 19,99 bucks in AUR.
AND, => => bonus <= <=, access to the REAL beta. Wich beats any pre-order pack ever being sold. I hope i emphazised enough on the bonus part.....
And to finish, there's no obligation in buying it. Dont want to ? then just dont. |

You really don't have to pay to get in. All you really need to do is play Slay on PS home every week to get a beta key.
All the free beta access is to thank the people who do buy into it, as a bonus. |

First, I don't quite understand why you're still confused. The matter has been explained to you by many people but you're just refusing to accept it. There really isn't a hidden agenda or any sinister motive. The Merc Pack costs $20 and gives you a $50 value pack. As a bonus you also get to play in the beta. That's all there is to it.
Second, nobody deleted your original post. Here it is. |

Why do these moronic posts still exist?
Why cant people understand the concept of the game?
Why are people really thick?
I'm sorry if I sound harsh or cynical but I do work in a call center listening to the larger unread public trying to argue against you that they are right and you are wrong even contrary to the evidence.
YOU HAVE BOUGHT YOUR WAY INTO THIS BETA. MOST OF US HAVEN'T.
When this game goes live this game will be free to play and free to download from the PSN store. There will be a cash shop in it to purchase items similar to what you bought. There is no need to buy them unless you desperately want a particular item and to be honest a BPO of a suit is a very good reason but it looks as though you bought yours to join in on a beta to complain about the cost of joining in the beta! o.O
Why are you complaining? |
