Conveyance of information and tactical communication via verbal transmission to facilitate team alertness or readiness to ensure smooth battle flow.
Good: "We have enemy infantry approaching point bravo." Bad: "So, yeah, I found this chick and she was smokin' hot - like, dude, if she were a star she'd be white she was so hot."
Varying vocabulary or fluctuating elements of pitch, volume, rhythm, and timbre of the voice to emphasize the nature of the information - such as the difference between a single rifleman and a dozen rifleman. Speak louder for priority.
Good: "We have a dozen enemy infantry approaching point bravo." Bad: "Holy **** we have A THOUSAND PEOPLE COMING TO ALPHA - I NEED HELP."
Use an appropriate expression that befits the situation at hand.
Good: "There's a hostile tank inbound toward bravo, be careful." Bad: "Hahaha, there's a tank heading toward you - you're boned."
Speak at the right tempo so that your team clearly understands you, but not so slowly/fast that you are taking too long to complete the thought.
Good: "Lots of enemy infantry over here, could use some help." Bad: ""holyhelltheressomanyofthemwhatamigoingtodo"
Proper elimination of fillers.
Good: "There's an enemy LAV inbound to Charlie." Bad: "Uh... Umm... Alright.. Okay, you know that LAV that was uhh just there? Yeah, its uhh.. gone now."
Speak proudly and with enough volume that you can easily be heard, but not so much that you are shouting or screaming.
Good: "Squad one, maintain defense." Bad: "OH MY ******* GOD SQUAD ONE YOU NEED TO HOLD THE LINE!!!" Bad: "mumblemumble...squad...mumble...hold...mumblemumblemumble.."
Pay close attention to diction, try to avoid slang - completing words to fully convey their meaning.
Good: "That sniper is going toward the tower." Bad: "Dat dey point-an'-click adventurer goin' toward th' big ole building."
Don't let your voice trail off with any thoughts.
Good: "We're moving to the rally point." Bad: "We're heading toward th- hey.. wait, how many people are coming with me? Where is the other squad?"
Report your death in a clear and effective manner for logistics.
Good: "I died just past the supply depot next to the catwalk, north-east of Charlie." Bad: "Maaaaaaan that **** isss soooo over-powwwweeerreedd if it were a bomb it'd be the hiroshima bomb its so over-pooowwwweerrredd..."
Turn off your microphone when eating while gaming.
Good: "CLICK" Bad: "Crunch crunch crunch crunch chew chew slop drip vomit."
TIPS TO REMEMBER:
On board the MCC, feel free to communicate - but on the battlefield it's encouraged to drop non-combat essential chatter. Not doing so is a great way to infuriate any Fleet Commander (or in this case, Platoon Commander).
Don't go off about game elements that don't particularly matter to the situation at hand. If you need to know what weapon to use for a situation, ask, but if it gets too in depth you're polluting the comms for other players that may have very needed information.
When someone is trying to speak, and you know that what you have to say isn't as important, shut up. If it's one rifleman trying to take a point you can remove him as a threat by the time you get the message across when talking over someone.
And last but not least (and you know who you are): Play music at an enjoyable volume but not enough to where you, or any of your companions, can hear.
Edit: Yeah, that's right, I worded that very specifically so that it sounds like I'm telling you not to play music at all. You read it correctly. |

EXCELLENT post!
One thing I'll add - adjust your mic sensitivity so you're not permanently active nor required to shout to get across.
*in the background while we're trying to take point Charlie* "Jimmy are you playing with your internet friends Jimmy? I'm so glad you found some friends Jimmy! *tweet* *woof* *woof* Jimmy your hot pockets are done!"

- Unless you are 100% sure you have a noise cancelling microphone, turn down the volume on your sound system/TV. Sometimes I can hear the other players TV louder through my headset, better than I can hear my own.
(I'm 100% sure 0% have a noise cancelling microphone, enough that IF someone have them, they'll be such a minority that they can be written off as statistically insignificant),
- Don't start talking about that awesome new Cell phone provider you have just started at (really happened)
- Don't repeat how great you are, and how bad everybody else are, adding the F-word 2-5 times in each sentence (even short sentences). Especially when you are the one dying all the time.
- If you don't use your headset, mute it. (guilty, and ashamed of it)
- - Don't put the headset next to the fan...
- I already mentioned breathers and spitters.
Test and try out your headset, use it under comparable situations, such as background noise levels, while recording it, and listen to it afterwards. If anything annoys you, might annoy others, or would annoy you if others were broadcasting it, CHANGE. |

I just hope DUST players will be as great. My experience with console players, when suggesting a course of action, is "**** you! Who made you the boss???" where that person will start soloing, and later complain (loudly) about lack of support. |

S'why you put Eve Players in charge of their corporations, and only allow promotions to lessers when they've effectively played Eve Online. |

I always use my headset. Sometimes I have to take it off because the background noise from other players makes it unbearable to use them.

Even mining in EVE pays better. A young alt I have in highsec made 58 Million ISK in 1.5 hours. (I admit, I found a pair of Hedgberite and Hemorphite sites, which does help. A corp mate of mine managed to go ratting in nulsec, and came home with an Officer kill worth a few billion ISK. |

In EVE, Capsuleers are insanely powerful, and ludicrously rich. Even the youngest and weakest. Some of our ammunition cost more per shot than a Caldari Navy Colonel makes in his life. Reading the official EVE novels "Empyrean Age" and "Templar One" by Tony Gonzales, you definitely get the feeling that the average population have very little love for us :P |

I have found that a lot of people (at least so far) have either come from EVE or MAG. Haven't found very many that don't give decent directions or don't take orders. Although when DUST goes public, not sure how it will be then.
To add to the OP list......
You can always tell a MAG player:
Good: Hey Bob, don't suicide. I'll be at you in a couple seconds to revive you. Bad: Ay man, Don't bleed out.. don't bleed out... don't bleed out...
(Guilty as charged). if ever you hear someone say "Don't bleed out" know they are talking about Suicide... and know they came from MAG |
