Some of my friends are worried that you will have 2 live, breath and eat with Dust everyday just to be competitve. How much DAILY time would someone need to put in 2 stay on par with the average player? 1hr 4hrs? Just asking |

Depending on what I have read it seems that the approach is a bit wider than EVE in the matter of adressing the casual gamer. I mean you get free SP even if you don't play. There was talk about a matchmaking / classification system. Right now it seems that after you reach a certain specification in your skills and equipment you would at least be no more cannon fodder.
On a Corp vs. Corp scale though it depends on the future developement of the game and can't be properly answered yet. |

since i play very very casually i can tell u its hard to compete if u dont play all the time im sure that will change after beta and if new players come join us but the more time u put in the more u get out so its only fair |

It sort of depends on what you mean by "stay on par." I mean, how many hours a week does someone need to play WoW to "stay on par?" Doesn't it just depend on the player and what their goals are? |

I have just over 4 milliion SP, and am keeping up effectively with players who have 12 million.
Does that answer your question?
Because until we can accurately determine the differences between passive and active SP gain, nobody's going to be able to answer the question in better detail than that.
I recommend asking again SOONGäó. |

last build passive SP used to tick 1SP for every 2-3 seconds
works out to about 30k SP a day. |

Were just social interverts with no lives that check the forums until the game's servers go up, then we play until we're forced to consume or sleep. Oh what am I saying, we don't sleep. |

get around 5-6 million sp and you should be able to compete with people on the ground.
Stay away from vehicles though |

This is what I've found as well. I've got around 4.5 million sp and it seems much easier to compete - even with someone in higher gear. I would say that the SP would be put toward a specialization. While it doesn't put you in prototype gear, you are far enough into a skillset that you can sustain yourself in battle. So I am not one to rack up loads of SP. The main key is to get out of Militia gear - you're cannon fodder in that. It's good starting gear - so long as everyone else is wearing it too. So when the game first comes out, it won't be that bad; but probably no more than 1 - 2 months out (maybe even weeks), you won't want it (unless you use it to **** people off like killing someone in proto with it ).
To give you an idea.. I play around 2-3 hours a session. I was able to get out of Militia in a weekend. I know it's beta so ISK / SP is being given out at higher rates (or maybe its not), but I found that just getting out of Militia gear was a vast improvement. |

When corps start to form it will not matter so much, as in EVE a young player can beat a old player if he has wrong fit on the ship or do anything stupid. And we must also take in considiration diffrent effect on the battlefields, like -50% armor repair or +50% damage on laser weapons and - 20% on asssult guns....etc etc.... most important is to take all that in a count , good FC is important to have. some play much and some little but will even out in corps, as it does in EVE... |

You don't need to play constantly to keep up.
In beta, we gain SP at an accelerated rate, I've heard it to be 4x.
Every day, we get a "first matches of the day" booster. For example, after the booster wears off, I normally get 30-50k. Before, I've topped 250k SP before. In my experience, that lasts about five or six matches, with diminishing returns after each match.
Six games is approx 3 hours, give or take. Maybe 2 and a half. That should net you at least 400k in SP per day, depending on how well you do. Over a week, that's 3mil sp. That's enough for mechanics V, shield management I, AR 2-3, SMG 2-3, etc. That's more than enough to be competitive. I'm currently using a GEK-38 AR on a tier 1 assault suit, and the AR is the only thing I have that isn't either militia on basic on that loadout. I normally end up top 5, with a positive kdr, and having helped to capture objectives and CRUs. I also take out proto suits with decent regularity.
TL;DR - no, you don't need to play constantly to be good at the game. To be successful, you need to help out your team and have a decent gun game. If you do neither, you will lose a lot. |

Dust would likely be very different with 2700SP/hour they have in EVE with the perfect attribute set for the skill in training. IMHO they should just throw the whole active SP out of the window but then all the l33ts would start crying for the lack of rewards for their ++ber skills. And while doing that throw that score board crap along with that FR stuff as well and that death match game mode and maybe it's my PC "simulation" shooter background talking again. |

Carl - they can't do the whole passive SP gain. Why not? Someone can create an account at launch, leave, come back in a year and have the same SP as someone who's been playing all that time. There's absolutely no reward in playing, whereas if you just wait, you can get into the game after a certain time with max skills.
It's not a very good model for the game or for the business. You want to get people playing, so that they spend, not idling. |

I have something like 17mil, and still occasionally get headshotted by militia gear. (Scout, BTW) After getting to prototype gear, you choices are 1. keep dumping points into 5X proficiency skills for diminishing ROI, or 2. branch out into new skills, which makes you more versatile, but doesn't increase your overall lethality or survivability. Once the SP gain is slowed for the final release, the system will make a little more sense.
Also, because of the SP drop off, you could play 2-3 matches a day and practically be on par with someone playing 24/7 |

Active SP is actually very clever. Let's say I play dust 24/7 for a month. I will be miles ahead of most players. There will be some who played more. Somehow. I then take a break for a month for black ops or such. I'll still get passives, but it allows a chance for others to catch up. Tbh it won't matter too much until the corp wars start. The best advice I can give casuals is work with your team. DON'T be the assault guy if you have better assault dudes. Providing something the team doesn't have in abundance (spawns/hives/repair tools) is very good for people who have been left behind with SP. There is also a skill cap of 5. Once you hit 12 mil you really won't ever be "under par". |
