Below is a quote from a post I just made about DUST. I've made similar comments in a couple of other threads several weeks ago as well. It's something that really should be considered. The game is marketed as "MMOFPS" but that's not entirely true. The quote you're about to read is a more accurate description:
Quote:It's an economic/financial/political simulator MMO that uses FPS and RPG minigames to resolve wars which are mostly driven, won and lost by the economic and political elements to the game anyway.
Looked at in that light, you'll see that the people with money WILL have advantages. In essence, we're testing to help CCP determine HOW MUCH advantage to give the wealthy rulers of the game, and how much chance to give the novices who are just picking the game up because it's free. We're also helping them to test the core mechanics - NOT for the game as a whole, but for the two minigames (fitting and shooting) that are used to resolve conflicts. |

Pssst, Nova. I think you're upsetting those who think that the game is aimed at them, i.e. hardcore FPS players. |

it's still free to play... they are a buisness after after all and those with money will foot your bill until you can
this is a complete part of an mmo and that means a buisness is making some money so get over it
if you dont want to pay it's like in EVE you feel "cheated" when you play for "free" you still loose but it's a pay model
get over it or pay for another mmo every month, there's all kinds of free shooters like tf2, wwiiol and ava but even those you will probly say/complaign on ther forums of "pay to win" because welcome to 2012

There's no reason why it can't be both. Dust doesn't have to be Sophie's choice; picking tight FPS mechanics OR MMOFPS meta-gameplay. That's just ridiculous. |

I've been telling people that exactly since day one! It's not just an FPS, or another MMO. It's much more. Even EVE Online much more the some random RPG, or MMO. People just tend to mind matrix, and force themselves into believing it's something else then it is.
Food is the best example. When someone tries something new more often then not (especially with meats) people tend to believe all new meats taste like chicken. Even if it does not really, or has nothing to do with poultry.. At all. People mind matrix. I'll use another example. Ever look at the mirror and thought you saw something? How about an ink blot? Same thing. Mind matrixing. However when people set themselves on these crusades they cannot be swayed. They will burn it into the ground till they force people into thinking as they do, or attract more people that see what they see.
Thank you, for your posting, Garret Blacknova. plus one to you good sir! |

The economic element and the fact that people can be more wealthy and therefore in more control is exactly why I started playing this game. I hate the simplicity of games like CoD where there's no real reason to continue. With a game like this, there's always something more for you to do and a way to progress |

Hm. Counter Strike good sir!
Seriously I am as excited about CS as I am Dust514. I just really hope to see a ressurgence of FPS, Doug!
MAG almost managed this, but it was all just a one time purchase. If MAG had done what Counter Strike had, or even EVE Online it may have faired better. I still say Sony, and Zipper killed it though. |

The beta is here so that CCP can make exactly that happen. We're not playtesting the economic and political aspects of the game. Maybe later on in the beta, when the FPS mechanics are solid, they'll give us more depth in those areas, but for now, we're mostly here to help them try and stabilise/improve the part of the game they have little to no experience with. |

I just posted this else where but I think it's very relevant here.

If I wanted to play a simplified game like that I would not be here...Im in it for the long haul.....I want to own maps...not just play on the same ones every day.Day in Day out....for the fps player in me I want to say "this is our house"and it really is me and my corps/clans in game. What other fps has ever given you that option? |

It really would have been better for Zipper to just do a proper remake like CS:GO essentially is rather then the screw up that was SOCOM4. That is great example of how to do a proper remake which keeps fans happy, and still garnishes new players.
Better yet though? They should have stuck with MAG. Giving it proper support. |
