I've been looking forward to Dust 514 for months. The tie in with EVE, the extensive RPG elements, and the persistent world are extremely compelling. This sort of "the-game-is-larger-than-the-battle" is a genre evolution that's excited me since Plantside was released years ago.
Sadly, I was sorely disappointed once I got online. I'm sure there is a lot the development team has gotten right, but game play just doesn't stack up with Battlefield or Modern Warfare. Movement seems sluggish, recoil is weak, and enemies are difficult to bring down. The maps I've played offer little cover and are wide open with no choke points. As a result, the game plays more like a round of Team Death Match in Half Life than the Conquest mode of Battlefield.
I obviously don't work in the marketing department at CCP, however, given the choice of the PS3 and the FPS genre I have to assume Battlefield and Modern Warfare players are the target markets. If that's the case, the FPS portion needs to capture the BF3 (or MW2) feel or those players (including me) aren't going to be interested. That means maps that allow for tactical advantage, maps that establish battle lines rather than allowing for an onslaught from every direction, and it means being able to bring down enemies without having to empty multiple 30-rounds clips to penetrate a playerGÇÖs shield.
I sincerely hope the folks at CCP can capture that magic before release and this doesn't end up being another MAG.
P.S. David Goldfarb recently left DICE. Maybe he'd share some of that secret sauce.

Gladly. I want to see this succeed.
I'm new to the forum, so maybe it's been discussed before. I couldn't find any threads (I admit I didn't manually scan the entire history of the forum), but surely I can't be the only person who is disappointed with game play as it stands. |

Bullet damage is fine to me, just takes getting use to, or get better weapons. If you look at the weapon dmage stats, and dropsuit total HP stats, and did some simple math, you'd know how much of an exageration your bullet damage assessment is.
I don't like chokepoints, but more cover would be nice. Keep in mind the maps are not handcrafted, but are generated in mass numbers to fill many districts on each of the thousands of playable planets there will be. The controls seriously need work though
Knife swings need to happen faster, with less delay between swings. Currently the knife is bad, not because of low damage, but because its slow and clunky. A slight range boost might be needed as well since there are times in which I attempt to knife from an appropriate distance, and it just seems like it doesn't connect. I said it before as well as countless others, but I don't think CCP ever commented on this; knifing NEEDS to cancel reloading.
Grenade throws are painfully slow. This needs to be improved.
Switching weapons/equipment should be faster.
Sprint should cancel crouch, meaning if you are crouched and try to sprint, it should automatically make you stand up so you can sprint. Yet another thing that has been mentioned a thousand times before, but never seen any word on CCP about if its even acknowledged as an issue.
L1 to aim down sight should cancel sprint. When you're running and press L1, it should stop your sprinting, and make you aim down sight.
When performing an action, holding the button for a second action should make that second action commence as soon as the first action is complete. Example: While doing the reloading animation I hold L1 to aim down sight (ADS), so as soon as I finish reloading I should automatically be in ADS as long as I held L1 past the end of the reloading animation. The reason this is needed is because I try to press L1 to ADS like a milisecond before reloading is finished, and when I finish reloading it doesn't just make me ADS; this usually not a problem in most shooters, but it seems to be a problem in Dust 514 right now. |

Unless you're complaining about things that CCP has already said they would fix, I don't see the problem with complaining as long as its constructive. |

+1 Thanks for the pointer!
I actually saw that post and abandoned it after the first page seemed to focus on complaints about the inclusion of vehicles. |

I'm pretty much done talking about this. If you are dissapointed that is on you. If you are unable to realise the fact that we're only in the second build, and yes things are gritty, broken, malfunctioning, not functioning, or not even available then you are a fool. I've said what I had to before one too many times. This sort of thread always pops up atleast once a week. It's getting tiresome.

You do realize you are comparing an unfinished game to a pretty-much-finished game when you brought up Battlefield, right? That's like comparing a Honda Accord to Chevy Corvette even though the Corvette I'm pointing to is still being put together on the assembly line. Of course the finished Accord is going to be better because the Corvette is not even fully assembled yet.
Also, if you want to get the right attention from CCP, post your suggestions on the "feedback" section of the forums. The "general discussion" section of the forums is not the right place to post. |

The problem is that we have new players coming in every week who may not know all the details about what's going on. If you stay silent just because you got tired of this discussion then you are allowing ignorance to take over the truth about how the game is, how it was before, and how it's going to be in the future. It's a never-ending job that is both thankless and under appreciated, but someone has to do it to ensure that ignorance is kept under control. |

If CCP hasn't announce that they are working on a specific issue, or at least acknowledge that its an issue, pointing out those issues is not uncalled for. We are beta testers, our job is not to just assume the devs are working on something despite the fact that they haven't said anything about it. If we refrain from posting feedback because of baseless assumption, then things might not get addressed, and it will be our faults for not saying anything. I don't agree with the OP on many things, and he is posting in the wrong section, but he is doing his job as a beta tester; giving feedback about what he thinks needs to be addressed. |

Pointing out the flaws in the current build is the reason we're here.
Saying "it's a beta" is a legitimate answer to people crying over how the game doesn't feel finished, but if they're providing good feedback on how to improve it, then "it's a beta" applies to the people like YOU who are telling them to stop. |

True, and maybe I'm just in a funk. I apologise for being short and everything. It just gets aggravating at times. I mean the most obvious line in-game is above you logging onto Dust514 -- "CLOSED TESTING - WORK IN PROGRESS" -- it speaks for itself. Granted if you are exceptionally new you may know much about what has been going or done, or what all is working, being worked on, and ect, ect, ect... However coming onto the forums and posting your dissapointment is just foolish.
I mean sure when it comes to home entertainment consoles most people do not know what a true blue [beta] is, or about. This is not a demo in disguise. It's a hot mess that we the community have to help CCP put together into a coherent functioning game. So that come release players will not have to put up with such trivial matters, and for the most part the only thing necessary is minor server tweeks, or price adjustments. Unfortunetly when we as a community have to endure these sort of posts on a regular basis from both rookies, or even the occasional pisant troll with no life (Brooklyn Rage!) it only hinders us from putting in proper input, and hinders CCP having to go through every little complaint, or raging. We both suffer, and then the game suffers. It just gets old.
Again. I apologise. I'm not trying to be short. Just tired of the same repeating occurances. |

Two things.
One, he may be doing his job, but he's criticising rather than giving suggestions. Also, his experience is completely off. I've emptied a full magazine into a heavy (about 1k ehp!) and killed him. It only takes about a quarter of a mag to kill an assault, and even less for a scout. That's with the missed shots.
Two, let's assume for a moment that CCP doesn't have work to do on DUST. Would you be bothered to post a reply to every issue? That would be a few hundred replies a day, every day for a few months. It would get very boring, very quickly, especially if it's the same issue (as now) being brought up time and time again. Let's go back to that first assumption. They're working on the game, as well as checking forums for constructive suggestions, a lot of which they've implemented for the next build, such as RE and AV changes. I can imagine that they skip 90% of these threads, as I've seen about forty or fifty of them since I started playing a few weeks ago.
But yes, I agree with you in principle. |

@Ironblood There have been ATLEAST 3 builds in the closed beta to my knowledge. Apparently people were in December of last year, who knows how many builds they've seen. I feel the same frustration, though mine is mostly directed at unconstructive posts :(

it's fine to compare bf and cod, even at this stage and give feedback basicly stating what you like about those games that could be brought over to dust for a more enjoyable fps experience, as for controls, yeah atm they feel sluggish , the deadzone is way off on aiming making fine tuning your aim on distant targets very very difficult.
your skills and weapons get better, but if your new, yeah atm your againsed whats basicly end game gear and skills with your starter gear and skills, thats why your having such a hard time taking people down
as for maps, i played on biomass skirmish, was a older map and it had a fair few choke points in it. this current map is pretty open and favours more the assault rifle and sniper rifle.
also i think dust could improve on there sounds, the current ar sounds weak and not very fun to hear being shot. but yeah, still in beta for a few months so, keep playing dude and give feedback. the deadzone on aiming tho atm is a major concern to me as at it's current state aiming alone will litterally dmg this game when it goes up againsed bf cod to aquire players. but ccp have made improvements over the months i have been testing and they seem to listen to the community, wich i respect. |

Three builds then. Something new everyday. I wish I had been lucky enough to have been there for that, but I am sure it was an extremly small group. As for the whole unconstructive postings. Yup. I'm right there with ya'. There is difference between complaining and adding to the game though in a constructive, and civil way in which helps the community understand the problem and CCP to acknowledge and properly test for the problem. The original poster's posting? Not so much. More like I hyped this up myself, forgot it was in closed testing, and now I'm dissapointed. Yeah. That is helpful. No, not really. |
