First off, I want to say how awesome I think this game is, I love it already, even in its current state.
Alright, for some background... I purchased the Mercenary Pack while checking out the Playstation Home area, after hearing that the game was free to play I decided I wanted to dish out some cash to CCP anyway. I've been anticipating this game for a while.
I mostly play a Sniper, although I have tried Assault specs as well, and made a few vehicle based characters.
I've found that the (wow, that draft saved notification keeps bouncing the text box around, very distracting...) So, I've found that the accuracy of my shots has suffered from how insanely accurate you must be which gets countered by minor latency... If the "hit area" for shot placement were made just a tiny bit larger (maybe +50% for that really long range stuff) I feel that this would make up for problems caused by latency, at close range there really is not noticeable issues.
This could also be a minor latency + too precise shot placement issue as well but it seems to me that where I hit my target when sniping doesn't matter at all. I've shot people in the foot and killed them in one go, and then had another guy take two shots to the chest. I am aware that different dropsuits have different amounts of health, but it makes it hard to determine if shot placement matters, in my opinion, shot placement should matter most definitely. Arm and leg shots shouldn't be fatal (granted if you hit the right artery... but)
Enough about that, let's see what else I can recall...
Blaster weapons on Vehicles are surprisingly ineffective. I was in the army at one time, and I can tell you that these weapons are scary, even against heavily armored vehicles. They are actually not legally allowed to be fired at non-vehicle targets, things like the .50 cal machinegun. The in game effect is that these Blasters are so ineffective that it is easier to kill someone by a) getting out of your vehicle and using your handheld weapon, or b) dropping on top of them with a dropship, to squish. Landing your dropship ontop of someone should not be more effective than turning broadside so your gunner can get a good shot at the target. This isn't just for personnel either, a Blaster should also deal significant damage to heavily armored vehicles. While I was in Afghanistan I took many photos of the effects of heavy ammunition on Russian tanks. Each bullet can tear out a significant amount of metal. Granted, the vehicles in Dust are probably better armored than a few century old Russian tanks, but as defenses increase, so do weapons.
In regards to the supposed stealth granted by the Scout dropsuit, I really haven't noticed any difference, mostly what the Scout Dropsuit seems to offer is a slightly faster movement speed, and really really vulnerable to any attack. I'm planning on trying a Logistics sniper setup this Thursday. If it turns out that this configuration is much better than using the Scout dropsuit, then I must point out that this shouldn't be the case...
Ah yes, another thing which seems very strange is climbing (falling) damage, and vehicular damage when bumping into things at relatively low speed.
When attempting to climb some hills, you can come very close to killing yourself while moving very short distances. I think the issue may stem from the velocity that your character is buffeted around by the environment.
I've become a better pilot now, and bump into things less, but on occasion whether in the air or on the ground, I sometimes bump into a stationary object, like a pole, or tower. Minor bumps at fairly low speed do amazing amounts of damage to your vehicle. Far too much. This should really be scaled down... like... to 10% of it's current state.
There is also a bug I have noticed where my R1 button stops working entirely... It seems like it happens in relation to dying while in a vehicle that is about to explode, and attempting to exit it (dying in process or shortly after). That might not be the case, but the "can't fire" bug has happened to me about 6 times in the last week of playing. I managed to get my character firing again after entering a Dropship and then exiting it, so it may be specific to Dropships (since the Pilot has no use for the R1 button).
Another thing, when falling at high speed it would be nice for some small amount of air control. Nothing that would defy reality... but when dropping from very long distances, some degree of air control is possible by angling your body correctly so that the rush of air pushes you in the direction you want to go.
Jumping also, is problematic. I understand the endurance use, but when the terrain I am trying to mount would literally only require a high step, and I am forced to jump to get over it, it becomes a little, well, annoying. Characters should automatically be able to climb these low obstacles, or when jumping with no endurance maybe give us a little fatigued hop so we can at least get over these non-obstacles.
In regards fitting, navigating to the proper [-] spot can be pretty hard sometimes. I often find myself pressing up to move to the fitting just above the slot I am currently selecting, and it does nothing.
That's all for now. I am sure I will come up with some other things to bring up in the future =) |
