Hi guys, I play a scout+sniping+scrambler game. I generally come near the top of the table when the match is over (never, ever top though... still waiting!), so I guess that's not "useless".
It's a lot of fun, particularly if you are dominating as the attackers and pin the other team down in the far north of the map, sniper heaven as they die and spawn over and over and if you are lucky there is a supply depot nearby.
My question after reading this thread is how can I be more effective at taking down dropships, LAVs and HAVs, this past server up time I tried AV Grenades for the HAVs but it wasn't very effective. I remember reading something in a sniper description about a "well placed shot" being able to do more damage to vehicles, so is there a weaker armor spot I should be aiming for?
I realise that trying to be Anti-Vehicle is not really a scout-y thing to be doing but it would be nice not to have to ignore them completely.
Anyway, here's some sniper tips:
1. There is only one true "corridor" on the map and that is the quickest route from [B] to [A] so if you can set up shop on the hill to the east of A sometimes it pays off massively.
2. Sniper 101 seems to be "get up on top of the buildings in a suit you can drop uplinks in and then spawn their over and over", this is noob-ish but good for learning, the most south westerly one is popular, above [B], especially as when the cost is clear you can jump and land right next to it for a hack or override.
3. This is "duh" but I see people being idiots, range is your friend. I watched a guy with a sniper defending and spawning in the northern part of the map and running forward and taking cover behind the walls and popping out to shoot and dying over and over and over in front of me... while I had run backwards up the hills and was doing pretty well out ranging the enemies, allowing my team to avoid being pinned down. This is true even when defending an objective you have taken, hack it and run to a place where you are far away from it but have a clear sight to the terminal... do not hang around you squishy scout, this can be a good way to rack up a few quick kills with well placed headshots.
4. Use a sniper with a 5 capacity magazine not a 3... it makes a difference and the slower RPM is really not much of a burden but the fewer reloads can often make the difference between downing someone and not.
5. If you are far away and they are running you need to shoot slightly in front of them, once you acquire the knack for moving your reticle smoothly along the trajectory they are running in you will be more successful. Trying to leave the sniper still in a spot you hope they run in front of is not good strategy.
6. People love manning those turrets... lucky for you that's an easy headshot even from really long range.
7. Sensitivity up!
