Not sure if this is possible or if it's been mentioned, search didn't pull anything up, but I wondered about something linked to the HUD for when your sniping? The specific issue is related to being run over/squashed by AV's and Dropships. You tend to be focused on a target in your scope and then all of a sudden you're dead, as you fade away you see someone drive/fly off. I don't have an issue with being able to kill in this way, that's part of the game, but some sort of alert for approaching enemies might be nice. I'd like to hear some opinions on this and if it's frequently happening to others? |

Theres already an alert system for dropships its called the ground lighting up. As for troops snipers should always be aware of their surroundings it just goes with the territory. |

*Pay attention....l sweep the air and surrounding area to see if its clear before target hunting....thou sometimes you just cant help and get bug squashed
*Be evil and lay down a few REs around you..then when the Dropship comes in....back off and BOOM...or worse case scenario...you take it with you
AVS should like never be running you over...your a sniper, you should be on elevated ground most of the time.

I think the OP is asking for a Proximity Sensor which isn't a bad idea. Just make it a module. |

Why does everyone always seem to jump down the throats of people who just want to improve on the sniper class and make it more balanced with the rest? i think its a very good idea. |

Greetings,
Jin J'Rayle wrote:I think the OP is asking for a Proximity Sensor which isn't a bad idea. Just make it a module. Make an equipment slot and they could / would deploy it the same way we currently deploy nanohives, remote explosives, uplinks, etc. At that point it also becomes a tactical question... Do I get a nanohive or a sensor? Do I deploy the sensor behind me or in my preferred target area before I go to my hide?

so would it be overpowered if the sniper was using proximity mines and placed them behind him for just such an event?
edit: also by your logic because you walked right into the trap you deserve to die. you could have just killed said sniper from a distance and assumed he was using that. |

Crit's right. We are too quick to judge someone offering an idea. It doesn't matter how many "Snipers are under powered" threads you just read - We gotta give everyone a chance. That's the reason we have these forums.
That being said, I don't think snipers need a HUD while looking through the scope. Snipers are the most powerful weapon in any FPS bugs aside. They hurt the most and the furthest away. There have to be some consequences for that.
To solve your problem, move into tight spaces like the containers north of Objective B (If you play Skirmish) so vehicles can't run you over and dropships can't land on you. You can also just take one shot and move on. I'd do anything to get back at you If you killed me enough: like getting a dropship with no people in it just to land on you. Many people I've played with solved your problem by landing dropships on buildings and sniping from there.
There are ways you can solve this without getting another fix. Don't let that stop you from trying to add balance to the game. If we had more people like you - people willing to suggest anything to help the game - beta testing would go much smoother.

Thank you sir
I dont know if any one else has read the suit descriptions in game but it has made mention that the scout suit has the ability to blend in to its surroundings like an active camouflage( i dont think it really does this) as well as saying that the helmet contains system that lets the sniper see 360 degrees to heighten his/her awareness in battle. I would really like to see that expanded upon. |

So you want snipers to be high damage, shoot from beyond the draw distance so no one can retaliate, AND have super "spidey-sense"?
Tired of getting squished? Quit sitting in one place scoped in for so long - eventually someone is going to drop a militia dropship on your head in order to force you to come out of your hidey hole (that or they'll drop missiles in the hole with you) |

It doesnt have to be purely for the scout armor or sniper class. this game really doesnt have a class system everyone else would could have access to this item. Snipers are forced to stop moving to take aim and stop scope wobble unlike every other high damage weapon which can still be used effectively while moving |

I think that the active camo is still being worked on and how the hell could 360 view be implemented? |

I'm well aware of that. 3 seconds to stabilize your scope is a faily minor trade off to be able to shoot from well beyond the draw in range (see multiple threads about tower campers). Also, train your skills - the second tier of sniper rifle training deals directly with scope sway.
Damage on sniper rifles could be a bit higher - in my opinion, the highest damage sniper rifle should OHK everything but an EHP fitted proto assault, and the proto heavies (advanced heavies if they are EHP fitted). |

Guys, thanks for all the feedback. I by no means want the sniper class to be over protected and over powered. To be honest this is the first game I've beta tested and I usually don't play FPS so I'm way down low on the learning curve. I've just been trying out the different suits and weapons as I have time for and am trying to make quality suggestions. Guess I'll keep practicing with the sniper, thanks again for the suggestions! |

There are a few people here with reasoning skills haha. But as of right now sniper is rather under powered despite what everyone says and seems to think one of the main reasons is we are the only ones that need to stop moving and wait to even hope to hit our targets |

Just doesn't seem fair. You can shoot people from far away to kill them and the trade off is not being able to pay as much attention to your surroundings. So it's your own fault if you get squished or shot in the back. |

Wow, I have a few internet issues for a week and don't bother with the forums as a result, and now people are asking for psychic snipers? Seriously, the only reason I bother with the forums these days is to point out how stupid these ideas are so that CCP doesn't cave to the pressure of people begging to ruin the game. |

The 360-degree view doesn't need to be implemented, you could just keep the radar working while in scope mode. In case you haven't noticed, the helmets are not eye-socket friendly, so you can infer the scopes in this game are mainly high-power camera lenses. You could as easily make the scope simply be a pop-up image in your HUD that lets you scope the areawhile still retaining visibility of the nearby objects as well still have an active scanner (is this module what the OP is asking for?) working showing you who is in your vicinity.
Really, there are so many ways that you could do this, that not even getting to try at least one of these ways is a crime against the future of technology. |

Snipers already seem powerful enough to me.
I die fairly often to them, at least. They're introducing active scanners in some form, so wait and see how that turns out. In the meantime, learn to pull back and check your surroundings when you're not taking a shot. |

Items are not class specific in this game because there are no classes its all in how you build. just because there is a proximity scanner doesn't mean only snipers can use it. Assault rifle users may really enjoy it while trying to hack so they can make sure no one is going to blast them away. Heavies could use it for the same reason a sniper would to lessen the risk of someone getting behind them. |
