Okay people, I felt like it would be nice for a change to do something different than just talking about current gameplay mechanics or simply comparing DUST 514 to whichever other FPS game there is.
So here's the premise:
You are a CCP employee with permission to use any franchise of any company that you want and you can bring them over to the EVE universe. You have to be capable of fully integrating the franchise that you choose to both EVE and DUST, but it has to be make sense. The franchise that you choose will be bound the the laws of physics (and gameplay mechanics?) of the EVE universe. So yeah, reality-based and SciFi are the best candidates for the most seamless integration to EVE.
So yeah, make up anything that you want for this new faction/race/whatever (ships, dropsuits, even a quick story to make them (sort of) coherently fit in New Eden)... even just using an object from another universe is a viable option,
You can support or discredit someone else's choices but you have to add to their ideas... it'd be more fun if you did add more to it.
Who/what would you choose?
... ... ...
I'll probably post mine in another post. I was going to post it here, but I may have to leave soon. : | |

Some of my Picks: Helghast I'm sure they'd fit quite well in the Eve/Dust universe as their own faction. They seem to be like a mix of Amarr and Minmatar. They're very industrialized too.
I could see them suddenly popping out of nowhere in some Arc-like ship. In the end, they could adapt to the harshaness of New Eden just like they did in their own planet. Or maybe they could be in one of those areas that was far from New Eden and finally connected with the "current" human civilation. Their planet would obviously be called New Helghan.
Their dropsuits would obviously be modernized verisons of the ones that they use in their own games.
But what I am more curious to see is MAWLR type battle in DUST. I can easily see this insane war happen if the game could support upwards of 300 soldiers in the map with that thing moving around. I can also see it being much more modernized and much more powerful. I can easily see it being the planet's own "skyfire battery" on some of the outer planets where they can't afford to have a large army defending them.
Resistance 3: The Chimera I also want to see these guys in, especially in cold, harsh planets as their home worlds. Since there are humans in New Eden, I don't find it impossible for them to not have a source of supply for their "Hybrid" soldiers and I'm almost certain that dust clones would be about as strong as these things are. Since the MAWLR would be here, we may as well add the Goliath for good measure.
Final Fantasy XII: Cocoon I can see the PSICOM from FFXIII in here too as DUST clone soldiers, mainly because their "magic" is made out of technological advancements in order to reporduce the results of seeing other beings. you could probably argue that the humans of Cocoon think of drones/AI as being gods (talking about the Fal'Cie here) and they idolize drone technology or something along those lines in order to make all their artifical life forms (almost all of the beasts in Cocoon are at least biomechanical in nature).
Now, imagine a Titan ship called... Titan. and every other ship being named after a Fal'Cie... or an FF character/term.
Crysis: The nanosuits. I can imagine the Nanosuit being a all-rounded, Prototype Black Ops dropsuit for solo missions. Combine that with a Dust clone and you may have one serious super weapon. Then again, the enemy may have access to this technology as well, making all your efforts mute. Then again, this could simply some of those rare Jovian techs that are hard to match even if you put all of your resources to it.
Halo: SPARTANs DUST clones aren't far from this. This would probably be something like a super-enhanced clone with a super heavy tank armor.
BATMAN: you know you want this.... |
