i would like to ask why everyone is so worried about overpowering soldiers. the fanfest video even said that they would be dangourus beyond measure. So make them just that. not worrie about oh this guy killed me with his hmg or the assult are to powerfull. alow can some one tell me why you need to upgrade you weapon if the only difference is 25 to 50 damage at best. its sick to see the time wasted on leveling your weapons or drop suit. |

Me and you meet in a corridor.
I have a breach, and you have one.
I have my upgrades totaling 50% with a damage mode.
If you do 50 damage. I do 75. You drop much faster. I always win. |

Is anyone else confused by this?
While I agree that we should be dangerous I think that our threat level should increase with time and resources invested. I don't think everyone should be as powerful as the next new character and the old guard should not be the same power level of a new character.
Currently new characters can still prove to be a challenge for an old guard character. I think that is a very good thing. Training those skills are not wasted either. They allow you to become more efficient at a task.
I should have to earn my threat level just like everyone else. |

The problem isn't that something is unreasonably powerful in an absolute sense.
it's that it's unreasonably powerful in relation to the other tools the game provides.
Balance is something that needs to be considered VERY carefully, but I think that DUST is a lot closer to having it than many players give it credit for. |

If you do 50 damage. I do 75. You drop much faster. I always win. Alternative scenarios: My buddy is behind you with his breach doing an extra 50 damage, I take 75, you take 100+. We win. Rather than standing in a row like proper soldiers I utilize cover & speed to avoid 1/2 of your shots. I take 75 damage, you (unable to avoid my attacks) take 100 damage. I win.
---
You and I are both playing super mario brothers. I win without losing any lives because I didn't make any mistakes. You make a few mistakes, but have extra lives to compensate for it, so we let you win too.
We both win.
^^^ This is what the gear differences do. I adjusts how forgiving the mistakes you make are. If you make no mistakes higher level gear/sp speeds your gameplay. If you do make mistakes, higher level gear/sp allow them to be forgiven more often.
/end.
PS I'm tired of hearing the "THIS GAME IS TOTALLY IMBALANCED BECAUSE OF DIFFERENT LEVELS OF GEAR & SKILLPOINTS" argument from people WHO DON'T BOTHER TRYING THE GAME ON AN UNSKILLED CHARACTER USING MILITIA GEAR.
Another solution: DON'T MEET IN A CORRIDOR. Haven't you seen A New Hope? A corridor is a TERRIBLE place to have a gunfight. Seriously.
My unskilled alt is doing BETTER for KDR than my skilled alt because I don't take as many stupid risks with him, I pick my fights better, and I know that if someone catches me in the open I'm probably going to be toasted when I'm running full militia gear. |

you do know that the 25-50 damage increase is per hit right?
a 50 damage increase per hit is insane when right now the shields of most drop suits are just getting above 300hp and armor doing the same
that means i can kill at least 2 peeps with one mag easily |

I don't think you understand fully what overpowered means. When something is over powered it means that if you choose that weapon you increase your chances of winning greatly compared to any other weapon. While these guns are significantly more powerful lore wise than any other shooter out there, they still need to be balanced compared to all of the other guns in the game that use the same or similar technology.
As for increasing your skills, you don't have to if you don't want to. It is a poor choice not to though because any extra buff will only help you. You have to remember you don't just increase damage though. There are skills that increase the range of weapons, the capacity of weapons and even the reload speed of weapons.
I'll use a completely hypothetical scenario with made up numbers. Say there is a guy who has 10,000 hit points and you are using a weapon that has 25 rounds that do 50 damage a piece. After factoring in fire rate of the weapon and reload speed you are able to shoot 125 rounds per minute. If you hit every single bullet firing as fast as possible it will take you 1 minute and 36 seconds to kill the target. Now say you have increased some of your skills and your weapons has 30 rounds that do 75 damage. You've also increased your fire rate and reload speed so that you can chew through 175 rounds per minute. Now if you hit every single bullet while firing as fast as possible it will take you 40 seconds to kill him. Also, as an added statistic, the unskilled player will have to use 200 rounds compared to the skilled player who needs 134 (rounded up since the actual number is 133.3333 repeating but you can't shoot 1/3rd of a bullet).
You can see how increasing your skills is worthwhile because now you've killed your opponent faster by 56 seconds and you have saved yourself 66 rounds to use on someone else. Hope that helps explain the importance of increasing your skills compared to not increasing them. |

ok thank you to the ones that put down some constructive information. I was just having a hard time understanding why we were lowering the weapons instead of upping. I know it will be the same both ways but just a question. |

Think of it like this. If you have a Sniper and an assault rifle that do equal damage per bullet then either the sniper needs to be more powerful or the assault rifle needs to be weaker. Why? A sniper is a single shot low fire rate weapon that requires precision. When a sniper hits it should hit pretty hard. An assault rifle gives a lot more room for error due to its higher rate of fire. This high rate of fire and larger magazine capacity allow for an assault rifle to be "sprayed" at the target without lining up headshots or even making sure you are on target at all times. If they do equal damage then there is absolutely no point in using a sniper rifle which makes them useless. Every gun should be useful in a particular scenario. Even similar weapons (take for example SMG and shotgun which both specialize in close quarters combat) need to be balanced so that a player can pick whichever they prefer and don't feel forced to use a specific one because the other one puts them at a disadvantage. |
