Just a thought. Everyone knows CCP Devs are devious souls. I wouldn't be surprised if we found out that orbital bombardment was in the game when CCP challenges us to a match some weekend...and then Bombards us back to the stone age for laughs. |

Maybe with lots of alarm bells going off, a prerecorded voice (or a CCP dev on the side about to get OBed) screaming "evacuate, evacuate!" And the team that is on the other side hears the dev on the EvE server saying "target aquired..firing for effect". To the one who thinks he may have been OBed...from the fanfest video that shows an OB going off..I don't think you can miss it...it lasts several seconds and least and has a very large area of effect. It doesn't seem to be just one round from the heavens, its a whole battery firing salvo after salvo.
Of course, if we had RL physics in eve/dust, I'm pretty sure a Rokh laying down that much fire on a planetary surface would make at least a large part of the planet uninhabitable for a few centuries. The largest battleship sized turret fires a 1400 mm round...that's 1.4 meters of metal, and the hybrid rounds would be .425 meters...and one of those is antimatter "Consists of two components: a shell of titanium and a core of antimatter atoms suspended in plasma state. Railguns launch the shell directly, while particle blasters pump the plasma into a cyclotron and process the plasma into a bolt that is then fired." I'm thinking that, on the low side, a piece of antimatter plasma around 1/3 of a meter or so in diameter...that would be a catastrophic energy release on a planetary surface. |

Both of the ships so far shown in videos have been battleships. A Rokh, which is a Caldari Railgun ship, and I didn't recognize the other one on sight. I seem to remember it looked Gallente, though. If Dreads can OB, though...then we are up to a 3.5 meter sized round from the extra large turrets. Hmm...can't let the carriers be left out...they should be able to send fighters on a strafing run and fighter bombers on a bombing run...tell me that wouldn't look awesome to see a flight of drones burning in from space to lay down some destruction. |
