Before I give my feedback of the beta I would just like to say I've been playing FPS games since 1998 when I picked up the original Rainbow Six for the PC. I've played Call of Duty competitively and I am an active Call of Duty/Battlefield player now. I have played EvE for around 5 months and recently cancelled my subscription out of boredom.
With that said I like the way the dropsuits and equipment are fitted mimmicking EvE. I enjoy allocating skill points earned and the market. The idea of buying and owning equipment is great. I would like to see that in the general FPS genre more. All of that and the idea of orbital bombardment is great. These are all things I like about the game.
The things I think need work to become a decent FPS game are; controls.. they seem clunky.. as in not smooth. I imagine that in the final version you will be able to switch controller layout? I think this is pivitol as well. Along with the controls the gameplay just seems slow. It feels like my character is running around in quicksand.
There are a few times where I entered a battle and was spawn trapped. Immediately killed by explosives repeatedly. This is never fun. Lastly, I think the damage it takes to kill a character is obsurd. This is coming from an almost hardcore only player. The public matches I play in most FPS games it takes 1 bullet to kill. Even in non hardcore matches it doesn't take multiple magazines to kill.
Honestly if the final version of the game is similar to this I won't be playing Dust 514. It needs a lot of work to keep up with the top FPS games that are being played today. Great idea but I'm not sure if this will work. |

Ladies and gentlemen I present to you the typical douchebag found on the internet who only cares about stroking his own e-peen and doesn't really contribute much to anything. |

Devs have confirmed in multiple threads scattered around the forums...
Controller remapping WILL be available. You're not going to be stuck with bad control layouts post-release. For now, though, we have to work with what we've been given.
And the core mechanics are still a work in progress and being tweaked with each build, so hopefully they'll be better soon too. |

Please ignore furry, he is a pox on us all... anyway, if this is your first day, the reason it takes so much is due to three causes: the spotty hit detection, the clunky aiming, and the fact that they have WAY better equipment than you. Your gonna have to spend at least a week of play specializing into a single role to even stand a chance at getting a decent damage output without sacrificing all your armor and shields.
Also, as for the 'not dropping fast' thing, we are in armor. With a personal shield bubble. IN SPACE. and there are MMO and RPG elements, so we have HP values much higher than one to three. Aim for the head or center of mass, keep your strafing up, and keep your distance, and you will do fine. And get used to dying to CreoDrons.
And as for the spawns, they are borked. CCP is fixing the initial issue of the spawn being always the same spot, but they're also working on something else besides, so relying on Drop Uplinks and mobile CRUs is a necessary evil.
And finally, speed. there has to be a bit of a tone down because the Assault and Heavy suits armor tank. They are HEAVY. Scout, on the other hand, can make a Commando Pro CoDdy look slow, if you fit it right. To put it in perspective, the stock Militia Heavy is about 3 for sprint. The Prototype Scout is about 10, without modules.
I think this about covers it, post any questions and I'll be glad to help... and once again, ignore BAD FURRY. He's pissed that his Swarm Launcher was nerfed :P |
