Slot: Equipment
Function: boost the target's signature radius (or DUST equivalent) in order to enhance weapon effectiveness against the target
Power: Moderately CPU and PG demand
Operation: Targeting works similarly to a swarm launcher (with lock speed trainable) Once locked on a target the painter increases its electronic signature radius, enabling most weapons systems impacting the target to do increased damage.
Additionally, the increase in signature radius allows swarm launchers to lock onto painted infantry targets. |

I like the target painter idea, it should be a utility slot. And if something is painted, a swarm launcher ought to be able to instalock it, and the signature increase for taking bonused splash damage isn't a bad idea either. I don't know about the infantry option working... target painters require a lot of precision, and infantry move a lot more unpredictably, and are a lot smaller than vehicles. If I'm a sniper, and I got the choice to target paint a grunt for a swarm luancher guy, versus taking a shot at him myself, I'm going to take the shot myself, and alpha the dude, but as a sniper I wouldn't normally have any AV capability, without a target painter... so it would be a great add in that respect. As far as swarm luanchers go, I would prefer they go vertical and decend on a target, because more often than not terrian eats them up. (Even if you try to point them up they don't arc for very long.) If they worked like hellfires, or javalins, that wouldn't be an issue, and they would be more effective than they are against vehicles. |

Like a SOFLAM
Not sure about being able to paint individual infantry, but allow it to help guide in incoming swarms, missile turret launches, and missile tank launches against painted vehicles, structures, and general locations.. As an added bonus, it marks the target on the overhead tactical map for the command suit soldier's attention so they can issue orders and such (which helps if the command suit is also the one painting it.)
They have something about a player controlling the MCC in some of the larger battle types, so boots on the ground painting something of interest could be a good thing for the guy in the MCC. |

If we don't like the idea of a target painter illuminating individual infantry, what about this:
The target painter can illuminate a position, a location that it is target painting. Say an objective or a gap between pipes or a rock ... a wall, anything.
Then systems that need locks, like swarm launchers, could lock on to the illuminated terrain.
This could be an enhanced attribute of top end target painting skill sets.
I really like the idea of gaining enhanced combat capabilities when you find a way to make two players work in tandem.
