During our discussion of whether vehicle turrets should have a finite ammo supply or not, the prospect of laser ammo and functionality was raised. The discussion was brief, but I believe it deserves its own thread so that more people may see it and voice opinions or suggestions.

I'll repost the important bits here to get use started:

I'd very much like to see Pulse Lasers in the game as well. They could function more like traditional weapons, short bursts of damage. This would make sense for the Scrambler Pistol to be a Pulse Laser weapon, and for Pulse Laser rifles and turrets to function similarly.
In EVE the Laser effects closely represent what I described above. The Beam fires, it stays on for a few moments, then powers down and cools off/recharges for the next volley. I would very much like to see this functionality be accurately represented in Dust.

There is a description of the laser rifle on the play station home space. Describes the laser as a sustained beam that over heats the longer it is active. Dont know if the damage gets more intense over time or not. With this we can probably predict a larger turret version for vehicles. My only question is if it gonna be in the "Light" or "Heavy" weapon class. Really hoping its not heavy though :( |

well, the market lists them as Laser Rifles, so I'm assuming they're planned as Light weapons. |

yeah, but in the trailer a heavy was using it :( I really hope it was for art purposes since both are amarrian and they do look pretty nice together |

because of how lasers work in eve, i would honestly expect them to work like mounted blasters and such. no ammo, but they overheat. |

Or, if you want to give them ammo, make it battery power instead of bullets. Can only turn that flashlight on for so long :v |

If they stay rue to new eden canon, the laser rifle will be very similiar functionally (range, damage, rate of fire) as the assault rifles, but with overheating instead of an ammo count. (In Eve, it's the ungodly cap use, but overheating would work here) |
