CCP,
I understand that you guys think that you know how a FPS controller should be laid out. But he question I have to ask you is this:
In EVE you can map-out /customize your controls -- so why is that not an option in DUST??
Some of the design/layout choices for the controls on the controller are frustrating in the very least and IMHO down right infuriating.
POINT IN FACT:
R2: Weapon switch AND Equipment wheel??? Really?? Who's idea was this?? I have the most trouble with this during matches, especially when I am trying to switch weapons in the middle of an exchange with OPFOR. I can't even count HOW MANY TIMES THIS HAS GOTTEN ME KILLED.
Solution -- Customization of the button layout so that all of us that have been playing FPS's for the last decade can institute our preferred layout for the best possible performance. Or Just switch the button for switching weapons to our trusty FAV - Triangle.
Triangle as the stance button: I don't know about you, but after the last 6 years of playing games like COD, MOH, BF, UT, and other FPS's this button has changed from one game to another. Yet int he last 4 years it has become SOP for the stance button to be Circle, but everyone has their preference.
Solution -- YOU GUESSED IT: button layout customization
The player list on the UP D-Pad: This has to have been one of the worst IDEAS yet. Select or Start would make much more sense.
Solution -- Customization, AGAIN
Equipment Cycling -- R2: To combine both weapon switching and equipment selection is inviting rage quitting and mass frustration. But now lets throw in the fact that this is the same for vehicles. SO I have attempted to use you wheel for the selection of vehicle modules, and half the time it NEVER WORKS. And then I am ass out 100,000 ISK for the dropship/HAV that I couldn't maintain because of the controller mapping choices made by you guys.
Solution -- let ME pick how I WANT to interact with my modules and equipment. Keep the Equipment separate from the weapons, and used the D-Pad for cycling modules on the vehicles. IF you WNAT to keep the R2 in place for activation, I am COMPLETELY down with that. But Cycling and Activation together is BS (nothing Personal).
Down D-Pad: Overhead Map -- well this maybe a decent place for that, though I would think that the select or start button would be a better location than the current one. Reason being to avoid hitting it in the middle of a finger fit during a firefight.
CCP, you have assigned too many nonessential attributes and functions to the D-Pad and thereby have cluttered other buttons with multiple functions that DO NOT work together.
I ma not saying that you have to reinvent the wheel, but you are allowing KB/M support, and I am sure that you are going to allow customization of the key layout for them. SO WHY NOT FOR all of US that will be using and may prefer using a controller???
You can save yourself a hole lot of head ache if you just separate all the functions into a list and then ALLOW US the ability to ASSIGN our buttons HOW WE SEE FIT.
You guys have done a great job with the game so far, barring the issues that have been brought up and are (at least I hope) in th works of being corrected. |

They said in another thread that controller remapping is coming.
I HOPE it includes the option to separate the wheel from the quick-swap. |

Yeah I hate weapons swap at R2. Much better if it was R2 to hack...triangle for weapons swap...circle for crouch.
And equipment and weapons do need to be separate. Nothing is being used for Left D-Pad. Couldn't this be used to cycle equipment?
Of course I am all for button mapping which would solve all of these issues I am sure. |
