I'm loathe to do this, but for the life of me I cannot find another means of communicating with the moderators and staff of this forum.
It would appear my only other option might be to subscribe to EVE Online, but in the event that I do not want to and I've no way of knowing if a messaging system exists there, I'm left with creating this utterly self-indulgent and rather cringe-worthy thread that I rather wish wasn't necessary.
Could I ask why my topic - which appears to be raising some very interesting discussion and devoid of any hatred - has been locked indefinitely? For the life of me, having reread it numerous times, I cannot understand why it and not so many other threads has been locked.
I appreciate the topic lacks any beta bug reports or feature requests, but as general discussion threads go, I do feel it has raised some interesting points about the potential dynamics between two convergent genres and their respective player bases.
I fully expect - indeed, request - that this topic be locked, but could I please respectfully request that someone review the decision on the other?
To all the funny people out there; I'm not mad, just a little confused. |

Also, would you look at that: we're both in the Angel Cartel, a remarkable coincidence when you consider our clan in the game-which-must-not-be-named! |

I do hope I get a response of some sort - I genuinely feel that thread had something offer, while so many of the others like it did not. |

You may well be right. I provide a brief explanation for the use of that phrase in the penultimate reply. If that is the case, I'd be more than delighted to remove or replace the phrase - I'm not an advocate of it in any case! |

Maybe the title, too late now, and if you take a little time to think about it, it might have been better to have just removed the internet gaming jargon in the first place. That you decided to write a defense seems... almost worse. But i didn't read the thread. |

If you didn't read the thread then what help are you to this thread which is enquiring about said thread you did not read? Oh I know NOT AT ALL!
If you didn't read the thread then you don't understand why this thread is necessary therefore you have posted for the sake of posting. Sorry there is no post count so your pointless observational replies are not needed.
What is needed is an explanation into why a thread that had no hate and no break of forums rules was locked by a mysterious moderator who cared not to say why it was locked or who by. |

I would hardly call it a defence; perhaps if I could ask you to take the time to read the thread, you might be more understanding of how such simple a mistake using that phrase could be.
The original thread was written to promote thoughtful, measured discussion to an emerging cultural difference on these forums, as well as to make it clear to the main protagonists that - in the long run - their position may not be tenable.
I cannot think of a more suitable place to use such [albeit vulgar] jargon than on a forum in which it has been used many times previously, with few - if any - prior reprecussions. But, again, I'm not writing to promote or defend that phrase, merely the discussion which was developing within the topic itself. |

Greetings,

If that is the case, I'd be more than delighted to remove or replace the phrase - I'm not an advocate of it in any case! I did read the thread and I truly wish I had seen it before it was locked. A lot of very good and valid points were made in there. Having said that, I think Sephoran is right on why it was locked, though if he is right that does not bode well for whoever locked it. The discussion was civil and as you sated you had used the terms and even explained why you used the terms you did.
As I stated I wish I had seen it before it was locked. Anyone who has followed my comments on these forums knows I am coming from the EVE side and why I push for the things I do... But I am always willing to listen to reasoned debate and reasonable suggestions.

I'm very grateful to you for your positive comments and I too wish you'd seen the topic beforehand.
But, please allow me to be clear: I'm not seeking someones head on a platter. Having moderated forums in the past, I understand and appreciate the difficulties involved - I know it's not always possible to get it right and it may be that I'm mistaken in thinking that topic contained genuinely interesting discussions.
All I'm asking is for an explanation from the moderators, such that I do not end up making the same mistake again - as well as a hope that the topic may be reopened. |

Assume for a moment that Sephoran's reasoning is right, what does that tell people who read the original thread as it stands right now? It tells them that whoever moderated that thread was either having a bad day or that they were quashing dissent... And while the first is far more common the second is what most people assume and that gives CCP (indirectly) and these forums a bad reputation.

Title of referenced thread uses derogatory terms for both sides in the ongoing argument (which will inevitably continue post-release, no matter how CCP try to claim otherwise). Thread topic has been covered by multiple threads previously.
Pretty easy to see why it was locked, if you ask me. |

Pretty easy to see why it was locked, if you ask me. I've just reviewed the ten most recent pages of General Discussion - there are literally dozens of threads covering the same topics, only the most juvenile of which have been locked - and of those, just a quarter were locked without explanation (although, to read them it is patently obvious they lack any value whatsoever).
I'm not mad or jelly, nor any of the other infantile one-liners someone might choose to apply under the circumstances. I'll accept the judgement of the moderators, but I feel it is not unreasonable for them to be absolutely clear why the thread was locked - and if it something that could easily be fixed, they allow me to do so. |

Having not bothered to specifically look into your numbers, I think they could do with being more clear on reasons in a few cases of locked threads. This is the second one where I'd have expected a logical explanation and we didn't get one.
I think the level of activity in the thread factors in as well - it probably seemed (to whoever locked it) like the title was trolling for hits because of the insulting references. Kind of silly that it got locked when some of the other threads full of the same terms aren't getting that treatment, but I doubt this will get an answer.
Good luck though - I'd like to know what's happened. And I'd like to know why the guy who wanted to set up a password-protected NDA-access-only database of current stats on almost everything had his thread locked after there had been discussion about possible NDA breaches and he'd taken the few things he'd put together down pending official response and was planning to wait and see if he could get the plan OKed by the devs. Locking that without reason is more of a "why?" point than your thread, although that also seems a little odd. |

Undoubtedly the user you're referring to has even more right to an official response; as I said previously, I'm aware there are topics of significantly more value than mine, but that doesn't mean mine had no value whatsoever.
Regardless, I hope I haven't come across as a petulant child - whether a response is forthcoming or not, I'm most unlikely to rage and quit the forums. |

Hopefully someone in the dev team agrees with me.
For the record, I've seen times here where days have gone without a single lock, or a single Dev/GM post, so it's possible they legitimately haven't seen this thread yet. |
