Make them at the same level as the Logistics Dropships, but a different category (no passengers, 2 guns, a pilot and gunner) Don't make a militia version.
Thanks
Edit:
Please make the pilot gun a large turret
and the aiming controls like this classic mod for BS1942 - Desert Combat.

Multiple camera views would be welcome.
Notice how easy a swarm launcher would lock on and take this out. |

I'm happy for fighters. I hope they're not just jets, but actually dropship fighters. Both would be good, but if I have to choose, give me a dropship fighter. |

There will be jets, hopefully also attack chopper...er..attack dropship. A narrow version of dropship with chin turret would be nice, like UH-1 Huey(dropship) to AH-1 Huey Cobra(attack ship). For chin gun, how about a heavy slot. heavy slot weapons are weaker then small vehicle weapons right? So slightly reduced firepower from dropship, but some under pilot control. Gunner could aim wing mounted swarm launchers, two launchers grouped to fire together directly ahead of ship. Being guided the missiles would turn to the target the gunner selected, using synthetic vision sensors of dropship this would be in 360degree arc including straight up and down.
This would also remove the tower camping people seem to hate, campers would be easy target for gunship. The gunships can't camp as well themselves, due to needing to return to supply area to rearm, and the lighter weapons load. Fit modern attack chopper anti-armour/escort transports role well.

+1 for a large turret, but I'd prefer it be the pilot like the tanks, and the gunner/gunners be support fire. I'd probably want a fixed turret for the pilot at an angle out of the front of the ship so our flying would aim the gun.
And yes, hoverships are easy bait for swarm launchers and forge cannons when they sit around. It would also give pilots something to do to earn SP. |

this. + dropships already are damn good at being an "attack chopper" just because u the pilot arent gettin most of the kills dont mean it doesnt already fulfill that role
now let me see how MTACs are gonna work CCP..... |

Here's an example youtube video of how the primary fire for the vehicle should be, basically like the classic mod Desert Combat

Helicopters were amazing in that game. Hard, but worth the time it took to learn how to fly them. |

Then tell the US Army that Blackhawks are all they need and to stop using Apaches. Completely different role. |

I agree there should be a version + pilot guns. It shouldn't be too powerful, just enough to do a little damage + defend. Possibly sacrifice seats for guns? |

I imagine a system like this: There are jets, gunships and helicopter like attackships.
The jets have 2 fix mounted miniguns in their nose fired by the pilot and a slot for light weapons under their wings and one for hevy weapons on their bottom which both are controlled by a copilot who has to change the weapons. They are runway based.
The gunships are like an AC-130 and have one light weapon hardpoint under each of their wings which are controlled by a pilot and a heavy and two light hardpoints on one side of the hull which are just restricted moveable and fired all together by the copilot. They have about 10 seats to carry some paratrooper like mercs. Of course they are very expensive (1,5 mio +), are rarely manouverable and have a very weak armor to compensate their hevy firepower. They are also runway based.
The attackships are small, agile and have a moderate armor and arming. Their propulsion is like that of the dropships. They have also two seats for a pilot who controlles a light weapon on each side of the hull and a gunner who fires a light gun on its top which can shoot everywhere over it and about 30 degrees down.
This system would need different types of guns.
The first spawnpoint of the attackers is on a changed MCC which has a hangar and a runway. On this MCC all vehicles are manufactured and brought to a platform like on aircraft carriers where they are picked up by RDVs that bring them down. If you order a vehicle on the MCC it doesnt get picked up by RDVs but stay on its platform. The only way to start jets and gunships is on the runway on the MCC or if they are introduced on a aircraft carrier so you cannot order them on the ground. There are also auto guns on the MCC to prevent enemies from flying onto the MCC. The defenders non overtakeable spawnpoint is a hangar too which is under planets surface. The other things are the same. |

I think ultimately they should make the pilot drop suit the only way of transferring skills like mechanics, shield management, etc. and Sensor modules into closed vehicles like dropships and tanks (excluding LAVs. or open cockpit vehicles) and wearing any other suit blinds sensors.
Basically, I shouldn't be able to jump into a vehicle with my heavy/assault suit get a 25% advantage or have my personal modules effect the vehicle unless I'm wearing a suit designed to integrate with that vehicle. |

Maybe it shouldnt be such radically but your vehicle skills should work just in vehicles you ordered to the battlefield. The pilot suits should have skills that let you dodge a following rocket. |
