First I would like to say that the load time for suit selection needs a bit of work now onto the interesting stuff.
When selecting fitting it is situational which suit I will chose. Tanks on field then forge, loads of infantry assault etc. Currently the only way to do this is to scroll like mad. So what I propose is a tabbed selection system.
L1 and R1 take you between tabs which you can name, for example militia, assaults, anti tank and heavies. This means you can have load of fits without loads of scrolling.
The previously selected tab becomes default on next spawn. This way I don't have to tab past the militia fits everytime I spawn. If I've learnt anything from Eve it's that you WILL end up with loads of fit's.
Finally we would need functionality to change a suits positioning in each tab and it would be nice to be able to clone fits I have assault fittings almost the same with nano hives and uplinks. |

It takes me 5-10 seconds longer to spawn than the rest of my team, because I have many dropsuit loadouts, because I like to be flexible. |

That's a little over complicated, just let us remove the default ones that quickly become obsolete and that'll half the amount of scrolling needed.

Easiest implementation, rather than making the tabs user-defined, would be to simply break it down by suit class. We have Pilot, Heavy, Assault, Logistics, Scout (am I missing any?) Break them down by that, and then you just tab to the armour class you want, then pick the particular fit. Personally, it seems unlikely that we'd have more than 4 or 5 fits for a given armour class (I'm a cheap SOB and mostly use militia stuff, and I have about 3 per armour class). Would make thing fast and simple to select in battle, and it would also be a little easier to program.
We also desperately need to be able to re-order our fits >_< I'm sick of having to delete fits and recreate them, just to keep things in a particular order so I don't have to think about it as much (or scroll as much) to select what I need for a given situation. |

We have so many buttons why not use them to quick select your suit like, L1 = First suit, L2 = Second Suit, R1 = Third Suit, ... and so on.
Just leave one button to get back to drop zone selection. Which can be O or select or whatever. |

This layout would prevent you from quickly switching between them and comparing.
Having custom tabs would be better, so you can have AV, AP and Hybrid tabs if you want to, OR you can have Heavy, Assault, Scout, etc. tabs if that suits you better. |

Yes the other thing I was considering is corp fittings on a seperate tab for each combat doctrine. Much like in EVE we have Tengu or Drake doctrines with standard setups the same could be said for DUST with multiple tabs for groups of fits used in different doctrines. |

We could do a radial menu, with the classes and corp fits as the first layer, and the specific setups as the second layers. Also, having the timer tick down from when you died instead of when you finalize your selection would help immensely. |

Wow this is an epic idea, so you get told at respawn screen how much this suit costs to buy again. Could also help CCP increase player AUR usage as in the heat of the battle someone is more likely to just buy another AUR related suit than when they are on the market screen. |

You don't need to use militia gear until the next battle, if you press start to go to your neocom and navigate to dropsuit fittings you can restock from there.

As to the "what if I have multiple AV fits in different armour classes," well then flip to the tab for the class you want, lol. It's not like you need to flip back and forth between them to decide, pick the armour you feel applies best to the situation, then pick the loadout you feel best applies to the situation. It doesn't get much more logical or intuitive (or easier to implement in the UI or the back end.) |

You do realize I quoted a different idea than the one you quoted earlier, right? I agree that mapping fits to controller buttons is a terrible idea. I was commenting on the idea of separating fits into tabs, the idea you are clearly commenting on in your second paragraph. |
