Please close the thread. After further testing, it does appear capable of rotating in place, though under certain situations it doesn't handle as it should. Once I narrow down what's causing the issues, I'll start an appropriate thread in the bug report thread. |

Drake Tsuka wrote:i thought they already could? If they can, the current cludgy ground vehicle controls make it very difficult and unintuitive. We really need forward and reverse buttons, and to have the stick only handle turning. In any case, in all the matches i played today, i couold only make it turn if i also applied forward or reverse motion as well as the turning, and the turn radius isn't even remotely close to the zero that a tank has/should have. |

Pressing straight left or right had zero effect on tank motion or facing. What's the "right" way? It's possible it's a side-effect of the horrible ground vehicle controls (which need to be fixed, just use l1/l2 for forward/back like the dropships use for up/down), but as it stands, i'm not seeing the magic trick. |

What you want is a way to control each caterpillar with the sticks so if pull the analog sticks in opposite direction the tank rotates...or alternative using Forward & Reverse simultaneously does the same. Am I right? |

That's exactly what it is. You can't be moving forward or backward at the time. |

Am I right? That would be an awesome ideal i'd favor, assuming you make the main turret a gunner seat and the driver only drives (how it should be, in my opinion, crew served vehicles should require crews), but no, that's not what i'm saying (as much as i love the Virtual On style control you describe).
If there's a way now, i'm not seeing it. All i want is left/right on the left stick (and hopefully sooner rather than later, the "a" and "d" keys) rotate the tank. Even better would be to use the shoulder buttons for forward/back on ground vehicles, so you actually have proper, precise control of both forward and reverse motion, and proper precise control of turning.
The critical thing is just being able to rotate the tank body in place, without any forward or reverse motion. If it's possible now, i'm not seeing how. If someone can tell me how, i'll test it when i get home and will happily request this thread be closed and admit my mistake. |

Ok, so it's just not very responsive, and is really touchy, like with trying to stop sprinting by just releasing the stick for a moment? Will test when i get home. If this is the case, they just need to make it less touchy and more responsive. |

Honestly, I almost exclusively drive tanks, and I have no issues with it at all. You just have to make sure you have no forward or backward movement at the time. Just come to a stop, give it a quarter of a second of rest, and start turning in place. |

See, that's too much, it's not how tanks move. Like the sprint issue i mentioned, you should be able to start rotating tightly relative to your forward motion. As it stands now, it sounds and feels like it almost has two separate modes: when moving at all, it uses the exact same control and behavior model as the jeeps, and while perfectly stationary it behaves like a left-stick-controlled turret. I'll have to muck about with them mroe in my next few matches to get a stronger feel and offer better feedback on how to improve vehicle controls.
I think most if not all of us can agree, the current vehicle controls are less than what they should and need to be (though dropships seem to handle fine, especially if their up/down speed can get a buff) |
