After about a week of letting this new game concept sink in and get used to the interface and mechanics, I really like the potential this game has to offer. I recommend that people who are just starting out, soak it all in and take your lumps on the battlefield. Once you get a dropsuit you're comfortable with you will begin to see results.
As I have read before on the forums here teamwork is essential to doing well. Also keep in mind this is a beta and will surely change a lot in the months heading up to the full release which will be free to play. CCP is on to something with this concept because being free will draw in a lot of people to try it out.
As far as actual shooting gameplay mechanics it feels like your standard fps minus any auto aim which actually takes skill if you're using a DS3 like I am. I refuse to use a tank or any other vehicle because I want to play an fps. If I do encounter takes and I am by myself i just try to hide behind cover. If you work with teamwork, as I mentioned above, you can overcome these tanks fairly easily because likely someone on your team will have a tank as well. It's just part of the game so I am accepting it.
On to some negatives I have seen. I have gotten stuck on an area of the map underneath some pipes and could not get out, I had to suicide with a grenade to get out of it. The hit detection does seem a little off but then again it could be chalked up to no auto-aim which means you have to be precise. Some time the action seems a little clunky when I go to throw a grenade or melee, it just doesnt seem as responsive as other fps games at the moment (resistance, halo for example). Sometime i have to mash R2 multiple times when I stop shooting to launch a single grenade. I also hope that the environment will continue to be polished up to look more like a modern day game release.
Other than those minor issues, I would like to thank CCP for making such a deeply customizable game that will eventually be free for the world to enjoy (after the fairly steep learning curve lol). Keep up the great work and it is great that you're listening/reading the feedback. |
