This game should be a presistant would battle, instead of maps you should make worlds maybe 30k x 30k or 25k x 25k. With bases that you have to control for resources for what ever corp you are fighting for. Similar to Planetside but on a smaller scale. Even within the base have points that you have to hack and control in order to control that base. I know its a little far fetch, but this is one of few games on PS3 that I believe has the potential to become a presistant world battle.
Think about it DEVS maybe something you guys can add in the future....... |

30km x 30km??? You're kidding right??? You know that PlanetSide 2 has 8k x 8k maps and it handles 2000 players on each continent?? How many players you'd need for a 30x30?? There's no freaking machine in this world that can handle this number of player simultaneously, especially when talking about the PS3 which is 6 years old now.
The way Dust 514 will work is have 4-5KM^2 maps with 24vs24 playing, but with the ability to have multiple battles taking place on the same planet at the same time. And they'll be persistent, so when you capture territory, its yours till someone comes and fights for it.
But 25x25 and 30x30 is just a dream that will NEVER come true for the next 5-10 years...Sorry . |

I'm sorry, but you're SO wrong, the biggest maps have been said to be around 4KM^2, just think about it please.
You think they can have maps that are 30KMx30KM on the PS3?? How many players would you need for that?? about 10,000 players at least to fill that size in a FPS. Please people don't make stuff up...

Because there are over 5,000 solar systems in EVE, each one comprising 50+AU radius from their primaries... That would mean that we would need way over 2^5000 EVE players and no PC could handle that.
No, I have heard the same thing that CCP is lookingh at 25x25KM and 30x30KM maps. While I doubt that they will do that for the PvP maps, I can see that for the PvE maps and if CCP does it the way they currently handle activities within an EVE solar system, then yes, the PS3 can handle it easily and you could have battles as small as 1v1 and still cover all 30x30KM. |

Basically to clear this up, as I have condused myself, there will be 25 km^2 maps that will have 256 players, which consoles can handle. These maps are big so the attacking commanders can designate a route for the MCC to travel and the fighting will be localized around there. It's really big but its possible and is happening.
ATM, we are playing tiny maps in comparison with the maps we will be playing later in the beta |

They are no gods, they've really smart and talented people, but the PS3 is just too old, not much they can do.
As for what you've been talking about 25x25, now I remember what you're saying. At fanfest in the Seeding the Universe panel they said that they can go crazy with their rendering system and have "TERRAINS" that are as large as 25KM or even 50KM. But NOT the actual playable area . Thats the catch here!!
If you look at the map we're playing now, the terrain is freaking HUGE, its probably about 5KM x 5KM, but then look at the playable area .
What they'll do is have huge terrains, but the installations, and the areas that will be playable will be no-more than 4KM^2 to fit with the 24vs24. As better tech. and tricks come out, they'll be able to hopefully increase the player count, and as a result make the playable areas bigger.
Don't forget that Dust 514 is built to last even after the PS4 comes out, it'll be transferred to that system. Thats why they're building the basis that way, and having big terrains to allow them to do anything in the future.
But for now, for the Beta, and the launch of the game, don't dream about things that won't come true. The max player count for launch is going to be 24vs24, and the biggest maps (or playable area I should say) will be around 4KM^2 |

Thats what I just said, the map we're playing right now is about 5KM^2, but about 1/16 of it is a PLAYABLE area . |
