You guys know how each gun has a different type of it's self but look the same? Such as the Assault rifles, there are different types of assault rifles but they look all the same, which personally i don't like, it would be great if each different type would have a different look. I personally would like it if they could make it happen. |

Pretty sure the current weapon models are at least partly stand-ins for the beta, and there will be a larger variety of weapon models in the full game. |

Like this man said. If you look at the scrambler pistols (The best gun in the game) they each have a different model. It's just a matter of art assets and time. As time goes on more and more models/skins will be released and guns will look different. |

I hope so because now is so depressing to have look-alike guns. |

Each weapon in the game is from a certain race. ie: AR is Gallente, Sniper is Caldari, SMG is Minmatar etc.
In the full build, each race will have representative weapons in each category. Remember the video showcasing the Caldari AR? |

Easy way would be to do what Borderlands does.
Each variant of gun would have a different piece of it modeled a different way, but all in all still looking like that class of weapon. Every variant would be distinct, but all guns with high damage and accuracy would obviously have longer barrels, whereas rapid fire ones would have a fatter receiver or something to that effect. |

i can tell you dont play eve :)
it saves memory to have all the guns look the same but have a different color scheme
IE
a tech 1 AR is green with siver lining
while a tech 3 AR is red with black lining
different colors but totaly different color schemes and lastly they are totally different guns |

Yeh, different colour schemes aren't good enough for easy recognition of guns. They really do need separate models. |

just because other games have it dosent mean Dust has too
you need to think like a DEV
the ps3 can only do so much
eve gets away with having all those ships because they share the same body style but have different inner workings/paint jobs
just look at mag...huge battles and mediocre graphics and only a few weps per faction
if you want the game to be uber epic then i think you can deal with having 1-2 body styles for a weapon |

There's an important point being missed by the people using EVE as an example.
Each vehicle type in EVE has at least one model PER FACTION. Not just 1 model with recolours. AT LEAST 4 DIFFERENT MODELS.
DUST should have the same. Some weapons might not be produced by all factions, some Dropsuit types might be produced by only one faction, but there should still be more variety than the current "all Scouts look the same, all ARs look the same, etc." setup. |

and there will be
as you can see in the current build
Heavy and pistol are amar
smg and mass driver and logistics are minmatar
all factions will get their own flavor when the game is finished
you will have to train for each factions weps/suits/vehicles |

you will have to train for each factions weps/suits/vehicles And the fact that a couple of specific items are listed as faction-specific with a requirement for a faction-referencing skill before they can be used. Type II Scout Dropsuit, for example.
Hence the fact that I'm saying "Pretty sure" instead of "confirmed" like I do when I know it's been stated by the devs. |

Super useful to be part of a beta in which only few weapons are present. What if the rest of the weapons are are broken? What if they feel and look terrible?
Really holding them back until the release in't going to help at all...unless there are no other weapons to test. |

There is a certain level of expectation for quality for a game like this. Just recolouring a weapon to me, seems like lazy sloppy work.
This is a game going to be released in 2012, at least try to implement it and see if there really are technical limitations before dismissing the idea.
Weapon recognition is a HUGE factor in finding out whether that guy will own your ass or not on the battlefield. It also makes you feel like you're not "just like that militia guy, but with a blue gun". The immersion difference is HUGE.
I refer again to the Borderlands' method of implementation, as it is both modular and easy. I know you don't like "copying ideas from other games", but this isn't a copy of gameplay or game mechanics, it's aesthetics and immersion. It's simply the easiest method I see.
This of cause can be a low priority thing for now, bugs are more important to iron out, but this should definitely be something they implement for the final game.
A different gun should look and feel like a different gun with it's characteristics, not just a different paint job |

I want this, but I am not optimistic. I am not expecting any new models or new guns at launch besides the Laser rifle and maybe that Caldari Gauss rifle. I really really really hope I'm wrong.
I find the weapons so far very lacking in creativity, just scifi versions of regular weapons... Greater variety of racial weapons, or greater variety of weapon models within 1 weapon type from the same race could make up for that. |

You also have to remember there isnt factional symetry at launch, it would not suprize me if everyone wound up with their own version of an assault rifle, smg, pistol, shotgun, grenade launcher and anti vehicle option at least. Then of course stranger weapon types not yet realized.
At the start expect at least recolors. If they interate on it further then they will do it by class (a tactical or burst will differ from a breach and standard) with recolors of the faction's owners then. |

Really holding them back until the release in't going to help at all...unless there are no other weapons to test. I highly doubt every weapon other than what we have right now is being held back until release. For instance, they just put the Mass Drivers in in the last build, and we have a similar empty market catergory for Laser Rifles, so its safe to assume those will be released soon as well. I'm fairly certain we will be testing at least a representative example of each weapon type before launch. |

INSTEAD of having to make a new gun model for every single one |
