I know it looks cool and hardens everyone's e-peeners when they dramatically stab someone in an online FPS, but I enjoyed the days when you could just kill someone by slicing them.
Anyone who makes the argument "you can't kill someone by just cutting them in real life" needs to go to bed. You definitely can, and I'm sure 21,000 years into the future we would have developed a knife that can do that rather effectively through armor, or why else carry it?
If I didn't have ro freeze in place for three seconds in battlefield 3 everytime I went to stick someone I guarentee my 2.3 KDR would be higher. I don't know why you people want this - it's essentially a death wish to pull this crap. Knifing someone is now a murder/suicide pact in B3 and K3.
What if I don't want to one hit kill them with a knife? What if all I really did want to do is slash them so I could keep moving? If they add knife finishing animations to Dust, it needs to be something you intentionally initiate, not something that freezes you in place and gets you killed thereby making it a dumb decision to knife in CQC as opposed to jiggling around just waiting for your weapon to reload, and then fire at your enemy who has no idea you are there 2 feet away. Maybe if you hold the knife button down, have a new kind of knife you buy at the market, but not a knife that you just swing once at someone. That kind of defeats the entire purpose of leveling up your knife skill. |

I agree with the request to torpedo another user's request. When I think "finishing animation" I have mortal combat flashbacks, and that is not something I would like to see in dust. |

^^^ An hypothetical animation might take 2-3 sec which is faster than the current melee: it takes multiple slashes to kill someone, heavies takes forever, so a melee kill is about 4-5 seconds now if we consider the overall danging you have to do to get the kill. |

No need to go Charles Manson on them. Do you have any points in you knife skill?
You can soften them with gunfire too, then knife you know. Or knife first then finish them with gunfire. Either easy, it seems cheap to invest millions, literally millions of Skill Points into you chosen dropsuit only to be eliminated by a single knife. Also, again, what's the point of investing points in the knife skill then? |

You have COMPLETELY missed the point of my topic. Completely. It was a hypothetical question and I'm not going to treat you like such a child by explaining why I asked it.
FYI, I am in the military. I know why a soldier should carry a knife better than you do. I promise. |

I disagree, I really like the BF3 style of knife kills, where you only get the the kill animation if you catch someone unawares. I think its a good system & I like the fact, unless you do catch them its not a one hit kill. I also like the fact that it takes a few seconds, it makes it more difficult take out multiple opponents in quick succession unlike COD, I don't like the COD style system, it makes things too easy & isn't very immersive IMO. |

Problem with that is the difference between ACTUALLY catching them unaware and the game mechanics telling them they were caught unaware.
I stand by my vote for "buff damage" rather than adding kill animations of changing how melee works. |

I think The BF3 balance of knife animations was fine. but i think i should be based off skills. the basic strike for knife wielding 1-2, at 3-4 you get the basic knife grab ability where you stab them from the back or side but is not a guaranteed kill, and at 5 the full effect throat slit/back stab |

I want finishing knife animations, but I don't want knife to become a 1hit kill weapon. Knife should have regular damage, and regular animations, BUT when the knife is the finishing blow to an enemy, it should be a cool animation.
EDIT: there could be a setting that lets you turn off knife animations to please everyone. |

The animations would be wholly unecessary for assault suits and heavies. Those are more likely to use their guns instead. Scouts could use them, but as kills it should only be if the knife would finish them off normally. Better-skilled and fitted suits would pull finishers at higher enemy health due to knife damage boost. If you can't do that yet, just blast em with the shotgun you're likely carrying until you can.
As for the 21,000 years later tech, we do indeed have a better weapon. the Nova Knife carries a self-replenishing plasma edge, allowing it to heavily damage, if not altogether penetrate, both shields and armor. Whether other knives will be availible in the future, I am not sure. |

I always liked the way Resistance dealt with melee damage. If you could get right up behind them and club them squarely in the back of the head, instant kill. Otherwise it would take at least two hits, more if they responded fast enough to get away from your strikes and heal a bit. You could always do one melee and switch to gunfire too, of course. That's more along the lines of what I'd want to see here. Though it would be very equipment dependent like anything else too. More armor, etc. would make it take more hits, perhaps even on unaware strikes.
Either way I'm with you on the animations. Not needed.
But I most definitely do not want a CoD style OHKO fest. It doesn't take skill to panic stab. I don't want every firefight decided by who can press a single button once the fastest like it is in those games for anything close quarters. It takes no skill, and shouldn't be rewarded or encouraged. Earn your kills. And anyone obsessing over the size of their tiny k/denis is definitely in the wrong game.
Heh. "K/denis." I like that. Gonna file that one away for later use.. |

Well they said at Fanfest that there would be invisibility for infantry, so OHKO and Assassionation have the possibility of being OP, but it depends both on cooldown between each knifte attack and how they are planning to add cloak. |

Im against finishing animations. If I manage to get a kill with a knife, I don't want to watch it happen for more than a fraction of a second, I want to go on to killing other people. |

As true as that is, slashing with a knife compared to stabbing is like grazing someone in the ear with a small caliber pistol compared to shooting them in the brain/heart directly.
Ps in bf3 you have to be behind your enemy for that to happen which means it's your fault and in kz3 you can swing the gun while getting closer indefinitely |
