When you first launch DUST514, you get the nice animation of all those ships in front of the planet, merrily flying around...but they are so ugly! Matt-grey, ultra-low-res textures and a complete lack of any polished effects. Some decent shaders for the ships (environment maps anyone?), better engine effects and a boost in texture res would make a vastly better first impression.
Yes, I know the assets are WIP, but I just thought that this area of the game was significantly lagging behind graphically, and it's the first thing a potential player will see. |

IMO, I think the title screen looks fantastic and if any player should dislike any game solely for its title screen, then I don't want their shallow arse to be playing with me at all. |

in case you haven't noticed, it's low-res and looks "bad" for a very simple reason.
space. The game already takes up roughly 2+ GB and took me an hour and then some to download and patch. If I had to venture a guess, I'd say they are trying to cut corners wherever possible to decrease the time it takes us to download and get into the game.
that said, I'm positive uppon release, everything will look fantastic, and it will be a 5GB+ download, which is fine, because it's the final version, and you'll (in theory) only have to download it once. |
