Over the last couple of days I have been mulling this idea over in my brain and I am starting to like it more and more.
When I went to create my character in Dust I giving him the same name as my EVE toon. When it said that the name was already taken I was confused for a second until I remembered that obviously these games two games are linked and so having a char in each game that is named the same would obviously cause problems.
A day later I wondered if there was a way to connect a Dust Char to an active EVE char. The more I think about this idea, the more I think about this idea, the more I think about... well you get the picture.
So here are some of my basic thoughts about it:
- Simply put, if you have an active Eve account, you have the ability to connect that account to your PSN and then bring in existing characters from your Eve account over to your DUST account. The names, portraits, character info/backgroundstory, employment history would all come over as well. I am not sure how the ISK would work... but hopefully that would come over too.
- Since DUST is seemingly going to be the planet side functionality, at least for now, of the EVE universe, it could be set up so that an EVE/DUST linked toon could only be logged into one game at a time. If you are playing EVE as that char then you can't play DUST as that same char and vice versa. Eve player docks his hyperion and logs, stands up, goes to couch, sits, logs into DUST grabs his assault rifle and grenades and joins the ground war chaos.
- Since the markets are going to be connected you could even have your EVE building items for himself to use in DUST, some kind of shared assets section would be cool.
- This might even encourage older EVE players (like myself) to reactivate their EVE accounts just so they can play Dust as their EVE toon.
- If this is something that they have already admitted to being the plan... someone please slap me.
What are your thoughts? Am I completely out of my mind here?

If you were immortal wouldn't you get bored of flying in space all of the time and want to join the ground war party every now and then?

It isn't all about the ISK!
.... I lied it's all about the ISK.

Nova Knife wrote:It would be hard from a design standpoint, and the 'story lore' that has been established would prevent it. To become a capsuleer, your body and brain get implanted with a ton of cybernetics to allow you to control ship systems from your pod. A cloned Merc's brain and bodies gets changed in a totally different way allowing the consciousness to instantly transmit when they die and for them to control their suits properly.
Yeah I can definitely see this being tough to pull off as far as implementation... but hey, what doesn't kill you makes you stronger applies to the Coders at CCP too :) And I am sure they could come up with some snazzy way to work it into the lore.
" My name is dalik fett... I am the black sheep version of my twin brother Malik. From birth I have always been living under the shadow of my brothers accomplishments. He became a pilot.... I am a mercenary. Mom and Dad always said they loved us equally, but if I have to hear 'you know your brother did ...' one more time I am going to frackin Pod myself! Pardon my language. One day I will be a pilot as well. I keep hearing about this new surgery they are offering to the troops on the frontlines that show an aptitude for flying. I just need to save up a little more ISK to pay for it. Then we will see who the favorite brother is. He wont even see my Nano Domi coming. Heh."

Technically the 'transfer' you propose would only work the other way around (i.e. DUST to EVE) from a canon point of view since it shouldn't matter where a Merc dies (range of cloning tech notwithstanding) so he could be in a pod.
These issues are more of less covered in the EVE books The Burning Life and Templar One
Right... but basically what I am trying to say is I think it would be cool to be able to play DUST as my EVE character and I am sure they could come up with some way to work that in to the LORE for those that cared about that kind of thing.

This would definitely be my main concern as well.

Now that is one hell of a good point. Separate characters? Also one would not have to do this, I would just like the option :)
