I hope, that it's just because of beta, but it strikes me, that for something as big, as this game is intending to be, the sound is not very impresive.
I think it's too shallow and muffeled, like wearing ear plugs. A missile hits behind your back, and you barely notice it, unless you die. Same goes for vehicles, I should be able to know long before i see it, that tank is coming.
And why does all dropsuits footsteps sound the same? Shouldn't scout suit be more stealthy, when heavy should be heard from some distance? Unless it all have some supersilent-cat paw-like technology. And that high fall safe system whatsoever, you fall from 4o meters, see some energy biuilding beneth you, you'd expect some serious bang at the impact, wouldn't you?
And you know what would be really great, different footsteps on different types of ground. Well, maybe that's already implemented, we don't have too much diversity at the moment.
Sounds need to be more intense, i want to automaticly press triangle when i hear explosion next to me, I want bullets whistling next to my ear, ground shaking when dropship is shot down.
Make it even more intense experience.
I love this game just now [well, I don't love the ambush mode, deathmatches aren't for me], and want it to be the best shooter ever |

I definitely agree. The sound design is pretty lacking and none of the sound effects have much punch to them at all. It's the same problem Call of Duty: Black Ops had. All of the guns feel like BB guns firing tiny pellets. There's no bass in firing anything. Explosions sound weak and vehicles aren't near loud enough.
Maybe I'm just spoiled by the Battlefield series when it comes to sound though. |

I like the noise when getting a kill but other than that I definitely agree. Explosions and gun noises need to be stepped up a notch. |

on a related note, the big "explosion" sound that accompanies the CCP screen at startup is overly compressed and if you listen on a decent set of headphones you will notice the audio clipping in the exact same spots in the exact same way each time. |

To tell the truth, I've never had ocassion to play any Battlefield, but i guess from what you say it sounds pretty good.
I've also never heard that clip, probably still being deaf because of that psycho yelling 'PEGI SIXTEEN!', which is probably the loudest sound in whole game. |

Watch this gameplay video of Battlefield 3 on HD with headphones and you'll understand what I mean. This is the pinnacle of sound design in all of gaming.
I think the audio effects in Dust 514 really need more punch to them. They all lack any kind of dynamics. |

^ hope the devs watch that clip and listen to the sounds, it's something that battlefield does extremely well, might give them some ideas. sound add alot of immersion and are really important . i said in another post after playing bf3, then coming straight on dust ..it felt very quiet. i do love the sound of a dropship. |

Remember folks, the reason why bluray and higher formats of data storage are so larrge is because AUDIO requires significant amounts of data storage visual data is actually very easy on memory, but sounds and audio ar ethe hogs, and since the beta is a pretty small package (compared to normal blu ray ps3 games) you can expect SERIOUS degradation of audio .
this is a great point to bring up, and i do hope the full game includes better audio, especially since i'm coming from a audio orgasmic game such as bf3./ |

I expect the full game will sound better, since the beta needs a quick-update ability for hotfixes. As Tobi said, audio can get pretty hoggish on memory. I remember reading an old article where a single uncompressed song completely filled a late-model iPod. |

If i remember correctly, the first trailer they showed on FF11 had much more oomph to the sounds. |

I wish the shotgun and assault rifle sounded more like energy weapons instead of regular wimpy weapons since they are indeed plasma weapons. In general, sounds could use improvements. |

Killzone has great sounds effect as well. I don't use the HUD in Killzone and I can always tell where the fight is simply using sounds. Also I can recognize each weapon from its sound, which is incredibly useful to locate Snipers.
In Dust 514 sounds are really muffled, and for someone like me that relies on them a lot it's a disaster.
Anyway BF 3 has undeniably an outstanding sound design. |

Killzone games has the best sounds of any shooter in my opinion. I love the ambient noise, the overall attention to detail. CCP could learn from them. |

I agree with the earlier poster. Sound's probably weak and lacking right now 'cause that's a polish issue, and they want to keep downloads minimal. I expect guns to sound scary and meaty and tough, and considering the overall design of the gear, I'm sure they do too. |

Agree with you 100%. I found it bit dull at points, no excitement and bit dull environment... i would like to see some real intense sounds (even from the solders).. The game needs the X factor, the thing that makes you wanna play it more and keeps you excited and gives you the feeling that you are really playing something more than a normal video game.. |

I couldn't agree more, the sounds need a little bit more oomph. Once again, this is a beta, and a very early beta at that (I'm going off the game most likely releasing in october/november). We have as much as 4 more months of testing to do. It will be almost unrecognizable by then. |

When it works and dosn't cut out in bf3,
But ye the sound needs a rethink especialy on some of the weapons. |
