I do not understand why there is a weapon customisation skill book.
I think it is an unnecessary obstacle for any person who doesn't care about Eve etc to get into the game. And you want people to get into the game
Its an incredibly boring grind yet essential as it adds 5% damage each level. Particularly when advanced dropsuits and added shields and shield repairers are common throughout the game.
surely all weapons should be the same damage and damage/ distance say reduced due to weapon customisation.
Templar Two has done a good posting on this but I cant find it through the search option.
I am not even convinced that on assault rifles there should be a distance skill book. The skill book should exist for snipers though.
you want people to find the game fun. Get involved and start grinding for all the other skills etc. Giving such a straight off disadvantage to people on weapon strength just seems pointless to me.

Don't think of the skills as improving your weapons, they're improving your abilities to use them. Then it makes sense to be able to increase the range of an assault rifle, or even a pistol. It's the difference between someone training to be a sharpshooter (accuracy at range) versus someone training for urban combat (where reload time is perhaps more important).
Admittedly, how training anything would improve the number of bullets you can fit into a magazine is a stretch, but if you close your eyes and use your imagination you could perhaps come up with an explanation like, you have a skill for making "every show count". Maybe the magazines are all 100 round capacity, but when you start out, figure you end up wasting 25% of those bullets in untrained panic fire, or missed opportunities, or overkill (holding the trigger a touch too long), etc. As you get more skilled, you reduce your wasted shots, making it "seem" like you have more bullets in your gun.
The bigger question is, do those skills make for interesting game choices for players? Because it is a game, and games need to be interesting.

Keep your hands off my distance skill book!
I like using my tactical assault rifle and increasing it's effective range has made me a very effective counter-sniper. Designated Marksman positions are necessary and are a critical part of any squad. |

Hi Max,
I understand what you are saying.
But I just think grinding for this skill, once the multiplier has gone, will act as a huge deterrent for people.
It seems to me it is one skill book that has a massive impact at the begining of the game when you want people to get into it and have fun. Yet its removal doesn't impact on the 7 years / depth/ specialties possible in the game. In other words, its a grind for a grind sake as has to be done as better shields repairers / suits etc are in play.

What? Once the multiplayer has... gone?
And i dont think its a problem. Its one of the first skill books i bought and ive trained a few different weapon skills. Its never felt like a bad thing. |

Am pretty sure we are on a multiplier of 4x for the beta - but maybe they changed it from the last build? |
