We tried that. I don't think it worked out in the end. Maybe for Eve Online but definitely not for Dust.

Removal of Passive SP in battle is confirmed.
They're unsure if Passive SP out of battle will remain or not.
I'm in favor of it remaining.

How would passive sp work, if leveling up your suits/gear was done by using it?
Other than that little issue, I'd hate to see passive sp... Lots of people talk about making sure your choices count, but most of these people joining from Dust would just pop a ton of alts so they can make use of them in a year or so... Suddenly a massive advantage for "vets" over any noobs joining after the initial launch, everyone will have an alt for each role nicely leveled up in no time... Just like some did in Dust.
Keeping people on one character makes more sense if you want PC/competitive play to be more accessible to everyone. If a team of 16 can cover every role with their alts... Not so much point in hiring a varied team of nutjobs to keep your corp ready to tackle any set of opponents. Vets will just have to know who's in the other corp to know what roles they're likely to run and they'll adjust characters rather than people, leading to less chance of some people getting anywhere outside of pubs... Which will also lead to a lot of people getting bored of PC/competitive play and you'll basically just have the same few corps competing... Again.

Another option to consider is something that is used in MMOs quite a bit, generally called "Rested XP"
You don't gain SP passively, but you do gain a sort of SP Bonus.
For example, you don't play for a period of time and you passively generate 100k in SP Bonus.
Now let's say you play for a while and actively generate 150k SP.
The first 100k SP you actively generate will consume the 100k in SP bonus you had built up, and give you a double SP Bonus, so you would consume all of the SP bonus, but gain 200k SP. The remaining 50k in active SP you earned won't receive the bonus since you've already consumed all of the SP Bonus.
So you final SP would be 250k
So the passive element doesn't just give you raw SP, but it does give you SP you can potentially earn at an accelerated rate. You could also put a cap on the maximum SP bonus you could store at a given time (perhaps it maxes out in 3 days) to encourage people to keep logging on to consume SP bonus and not let any of it be wasted by having it capped out.

lets call it "restored passive sp"
Yey, I contribute to the game.
If your not logged in you get 100sp/a week or a month? Log-in and play and you get double that.
Or is this still corruptible?

Passive SP is not needed, players were alyways bending this rule by skilling extra alts to get easy accest to all profesions, without spending a $ on game.
In Nova, all we need is option to buy all/or packed of unlocks on day 1.
This is Skirmish v1.0.
In my free time I like to spend time.

It is hard to tell where passive SP would even fit into Nova at this point. Therefore, I have no opinion.
