I read there was only 1,200 attendees for EVE Fanfest 2015. I think CCP could have gotten those numbers if there was ever an official DUST convention, especially in its hayday and especially if it was in the US. Maybe CCP will rectify that with Nova. IDK though. From my understanding, CCP loves their Fanfest in Iceland and EVE Vegas only happened due to EVE players starting it themselves. Therefore, if Nova is indeed ever released and it is a great game worth of being DUST's successor, it likely looks up to the players to start its conventions where CCP may then follow.

We are too few to have a convention.
At best, we would end up with a large, awkward gathering.
But I do think think that a group of Dust Bunnies should have their own group name, much like some animals have herds or flocks. Something like a pride, only the opposite.
A Shame of Dust Bunnies.

Yeah, that is about right. If Nova is successful, then the supper fans will arrange to meet up. When those meetings achieve critical mass, CCP will start sending Devs as guest speakers. If they get really big and well organized we could get something like EVE Vegas for Nova.
It is really all up to the fans, but then we are talking about this on a forum for a game that was shut down like a year ago, so I guess there is no question about whether or not the fans are hard core. 
Hand/Eye coordination cannot be taught. For everything else there is the Learning Coalition.

DUST Bunnies will just be the hard core old-school of the Nova fandom. We the few, who started with that buggy PS3 game that came before.

Quite honestly, I am not well known enough to head something like that. Now if it was someone known like Pokey or [fill in your favorite merc here] leading the charge, then there would at least be the possibility of people showing up. On top of that, what could we do at that convention now beside the basic meet and greet. I guess someone could show the similarities between EVE and DUST even though they are different genres but I don't know how many that would interest. If we had the Project Nova demo from EVE Fanfest 2016, that would be a different story. I'd definitely be willing to travel for that.

Unfortunately I think we're quite a ways off from being able to have a proper gathering for Nova.
For one....not having a game even released and extremely sparse in details pretty much kills any chance of putting together a proper set of presentations and events. Typically speaking you need to be able to fill several hours of presentations, sometimes multiples running simultaneously. This can be a mix of Player Presenters, Developer Presenters, 3rd Part Presenters, ect.
Additionally you need enough volume of people to make securing a venue (and not losing money on it) actually reasonable, which, at this point is likely impossible.
I think the model that EVE Vegas uses isn't bad, and I believe that started as a player driven even and then CCP eventually stepped in and made it more official. In any case I think *eventually* it may be possible to do something like that eventually (Name the game Phoenix so I can reasonable push for it to be in my home town  ).
A lot of this really depends on the success of the game after release and what kind of crowd it attracts. In the meantime there are still places to discuss and have fun remotely....Discord chats, Podcasts, even other games. In any case, I personally would be very interested in doing a player gathering if it ever made feasible sense.

I was not going to go as far as a tattoo but I've thought about have custom shirts and other stuff made. I never got around to it though. Maybe some day.
