I was actually looking this up for PC as this was recently recommended to me. Funny I found this is coming to PS4 Q2 2017.
For those that don't know, we are in Q2 2017. I would think there would be a more specific release date by now.

Maybe it was because I cargo runner/smuggler, but the game was just super repetitive with little to do and little variety, and I'm not going to buy a DLC just to slightly expand that.

We're fast approaching the halfway point for Q2 2017 and as Elite Dangerous on PS4 was slated for Q2 2017 yet is still without a hard release date, I am beginning to have my doubts about this PS4 title. Quite honestly, I am not sure what is the hold up for PS4 as ED is already out on XBO.

In case you hadn't heard, Elite Dangerous is releasing June 27th on the PS4. I am likely going to get it as a few PS4 friends said they were. Funny enough, I have actually gotten back into EVE the past month or so where I even resubscribed. I doubt I will have time for both.

I spent a lot of time mining and doing Distribution missions in EVE so I should be alright.
As for the friends I will be playing with, they are currently playing Farming Simulator 2017 which sounds no fun to me but they will likely be okay as well.

WOW! Two months later you are way more negative than your previous post (4/15). What happened in that time?
Anyway, I guess if I end up not liking it, I will finally try War Thunder with my HOTAS 4.

ED is way more frustrating than I imagined. It makes no sense to me you can chart and cruise through extremely long routes yet you get zero assistance landing and you have to land just right before you can dock. I got so frustrated the first time I attempting landing that I actually ended up destroying my ship. Of course, it does not help I was using a PS4 controller as I am still waiting on my HOTAS 4.
Another irritating instance that happened more than once is I had a slight collision where I could no longer jump due to having hardpoint or something deployed yet when I checked nothing was shown as deployed. It occurred during training where I could just start the mission over but not sure yet what I am supposed to do when that happens in the actual game.
My buddies and I were so frustrated with ED we ended up playing BF1 the rest of the night. I plan on trying ED again over the weekend when I have more time in one sitting to dedicate to it.

I got my HOTAS 4 and ED plays way better with it. I actually enjoyed flying around and the movements I was making were actually where I was meaning to move. It is so much better than using DualShock. I still haven't completed all of the training missions as I played combat training multiple times. Overall, I am still not sure about ED as I have not played the actual game yet. Still, it seems if you are interested in ED on PS4, the HOTAS 4 seems almost a necessity as throttling and maneuvering is just too cumbersome otherwise.

I did like playing Elite Dangerous but I like playing with friends and when I formed a wing with 2 other friends, I found there was not really much we could do in game together. At the time though we were playing in Private as there had been problems with Open. Still, I'd likely still be playing Elite Dangerous if there was a way to generate credits with friends. Due to that, I found a different game to play that is quite the time crunch where I no longer have time to play ED.
Still, I thought ED was impressive but I've always been far more into multiplayer than single player.
