This of course implies we'll have to start anew and these current characters will be no more, and that we'll have the option of multiple character slots like in Dust. I just want access to my original Dust character names, and the actual characters, by inference. I wouldn't mind whether there is any transfer of skills or assets, although I assume such will not be the case. I'll just be happy to have this character and my Gallente alt back. |

No, it's exactly what they said would happen. The characters are still on Tranquility, although unable to be accessed in any way on EvE, except to verify that the names are unavailable for creation of new characters with those names. The only logical reason for this is preservation of the names (and the character and account records that go with them of course) for later use. |

That's a pretty big claim... It'd be a bit of a kick in the nuts if we can't keep names. They might create a system where if the name isn't claimed within 6 months it's deleted if they need to free them up Plus with EVE going F2P they will need a system to clear up inactive characters, I'm sure the same will eventually apply to Nova Speaking from a database design/administration perspective, the only way to preserve those names on the servers while giving access to them to be claimed would be to keep them as New Eden accounts on Tranquillity and assign them to you (the claimant) on verification somehow that they are yours. At that point, the account record and all of the characters on it, would be available on the new game. How relevant that would be is impossible to tell, as they may choose to add much detail to the character records to reflect the new game, but I think that unlikely, as that would mean changing all the character record structures on the existing database.
More likely they have character records in the database that only contain character data, with some sort of flags for which game(s) the characters are active in, with separate records for the game data for those characters in that game. This would then be new for the new game and would likely have to be started from scratch. That is, unless they choose to use the old Dust game record structures, modified for the new game, which would then contain a subset of the information from the old game, which could be used to kick start the new one for those characters. How much of this data would be kept is then up to CCP. |

That's why no one is allowed to register them in Eve Online. That's a pretty big claim... They have said they won't delete the Dust names and won't allow others to use them in Eve Online. The only reason to do this is if they will soon be relevant again. Otherwise they would have wiped our names when they wiped our stats. Hey, even if they keep our names and give us the same 3-slot character screen we had in Dust, with characters from our original PSN account, what stops me from deleting the other two chars I have and making new ones with great names? Troll to the max I say! About the name-keeping, if they do that, they absolutely MUST give us some sort of benefits over newly-created characters, otherwise I'm just gonna use my other account... Yes, I agree, there doesn't seem to be much purpose in keeping our names unless there's some value that goes with them. I suppose it could be that they just keep our accounts and the names, and just the account and character records that go with them and nothing else of value, but what would be the point of that? |

DUST Fiend wrote:I'm expecting a pretty simplistic game, I really think CCP is going to try to cater to the core FPS crowd with this one so I'm guessing all the complexity will be dialed back a bit at least.
Totally just speculation since that's all CCP has left us with, that's just how I feel it's going to go. It sounds like much of the innovation is going to come in map locations and skybox effects. It will be a real disappointment for me if they don't make it more than just a FPS. But since I'm used to the idea of perhaps getting nothing, I think I'll manage. |

The thing about the skill tree is that yes it should be complex - it should have skills for EVERYTHING, so you never run out - never max out any relevant branch of the tree. As time goes on, more skills need to be added, which allow more training for even greater benefit. In RL people never stop getting better at anything - the more they do it the better they become. Yes, they reach some sort of limits after a VERY LONG time, but they never stop finding ways to improve even further. That's actually the way it works in EvE - it's a constantly moving target, with new skills, new modules, new ships, and it can be like that in Dust as well.
Increasing the complexity of the game should come with adding a capacitor to suits (and vehicles if we ever get them) to simulate the way things would really work. Capacitor skills are yet another lot of skills that would have to be added to core skills for the game. |
