For the love of God no. At least not in the first couple years.
The game is still likely a year or so out, I'm against anything that pushes that further and lowers the quality of the PC version.

Was just an idea to make the flop of Project NOVA less likely Hopefully they have some other things in the game which the mainstream titles don't offer, so that new players couldn't resist to try out.

Only if each platform gets different gameplay.
What if the console players could play characters based around agility and shorter range, for example? That makes much more sense on a controller and with third-person-view than with mouse and keyboard and first person.
It should be somewhat asymmetric, because controller vs mouse is not really a contest in an FPS... Well, unless you do something Metroid Prime-like. Console players could have a lock-on feature and the ability to do horizontal circle strafe jumps around locked targets. Still FPS gameplay, but circumventing the accuracy weakness of the analog stick in favor of giving consoles unique gameplay. Would be troublesome to balance, though, and the Dust community can sometimes be really conservative when it comes to any type of movement that would feel out of place in Call of Duty.
Yes, you could have mouse and keyboard support for console, but at that point the main advantage of releasing it on those systems would evaporate. (With that advantage being the large amount of players that could play the game without additional setup)
Actually, as an aside, how the hell would the Dust dropship work with mouse and keyboard? Wouldn't it be somewhat unwieldy? |

As long as it comes to PC first, I can def get behind the idea. If it's first stabilized on PC and then makes the jump, would be cool.

I am all for cross platform in general, but not for a FPS. Not unless they can partition users based upon input method, where controllers are only against controllers and kbm against kbm. The distinction is too great and the (dis) advantage too great to want to play an FPS with controller users against kbm users.

The people who complain about lowered quality settings are not the people who have a PC that's weaker than the Xbox Scorpio. Its hardware is already below the high-end of the mainstream PC gaming market.
Yes, it will be getting much more use out of its weaker hardware than a PC ever could, and its shared system memory gives it an edge as long as it's optimized for, but that fact won't stop the shitstorm. In fact, if you go down that avenue of arguments, the discussion will just devolve into ****-flinging about proprietary vs open systems. |

I don't see a point of making Nova on a console. The market is much bigger on PC, it also holds a better and more promising future than a console.

But **** slinging is part of the Dust 514 spirit...
Fact is an online game requires a large player base, so you can't have it only running on top end hardware... Having a bunch of settings so it can run on lower hardware is commonplace in PC games anyway and wont effect the highest settings.
Pretty sure one of those steam surveys showed the majority of people aren't running anywhere near the scorpios specs anyway.
Not to mention, it's only 1 console... That hasn't been released... And I was taking the ****, lol. |

I cannot believe I just said that. I just don't trust CCP to manage both properly, (barely trust them to run it on PC) and the lifespans of consoles vs PC. I'm so conflicted with CCPs management, my wants, and practicality.

I'm definitely against the concept of partitioning of different sets of users based on platform. We should be able to play against anyone at all that wants to play. If that means keeping it on PC, so be it. I personally have no problem with cross platform, even though the different input methods give certain advantages and disadvantages over each other. We had that with PS3, and I can't see that we wouldn't have the same thing with PC and, say, PS4. As long as we can still configure a controller (XBOX or DS) for the PC, I can't see a problem. |

It's true but it's also true that competition on those platforms is very different. Both sony and microsoft lacks a good free to play FPS on their consoles ( the only one playstation has is Planetside which is not doing well for a wide range of reasons actually), while PC is literally full of it. And you're not going to sell ice to the Eskimos, aren't you?

Once it's developed for PC, it's relatively simple to port it to a different platform. The PC is the best platform for development, I feel, as it's the more "central" of all platforms and won't have to be redeveloped every time there's a new PC on the market.
By extension, however, any port to any console will have to be reported when the console changes or a new console is introduced. That could be an issue. Also, development of patches would require porting to each non-PC platform which could delay the release of a patch.
But 6 years? I don't think so. |

More like a couple months if we only talk about ps4/Xbone...and I am deliberately exaggerating here. There are indeed some limitations concerning graphics and some optimizations here and there, but still if they developed the title for med/low PC specs, they are already at 80% of the work. I believe it has more to do with costs than else, considering that if you want to publish something on PSN/XboxLive you have to pay in advance. And nobody likes to pay in advance when they don't know what to expect, right?

The greatest downside to developing for consoles is having to roll out updates at their pace. So instead of a PTU and updates basically on demand, we go back to the slow ass Q&A process we used to have.

It would be unreasonable to expect obviously disadvantaged people to play against others with an obvious advantage. I wouldn't want to play against KBM players with a controller regardless of what medium I played, if there were no way to level the playing field.
Nor would I want KBM users to experience what they had in Dust by handicapping them so much that they, in turn, become the disadvantaged.
If you try and combine the two, bad things will happen. Why spend all that money on cross platform play just to alienate large chunks of your market? It doesn't make sense to me. It is the whole reason you don't see FPS cross platform play.

The best case would be that NOVA becomes instantly popular, so that people could get it on their preferred platform. ( like Overwatch)
