Only if each platform gets different gameplay.
What if the console players could play characters based around agility and shorter range, for example? That makes much more sense on a controller and with third-person-view than with mouse and keyboard and first person.
It should be somewhat asymmetric, because controller vs mouse is not really a contest in an FPS... Well, unless you do something Metroid Prime-like. Console players could have a lock-on feature and the ability to do horizontal circle strafe jumps around locked targets. Still FPS gameplay, but circumventing the accuracy weakness of the analog stick in favor of giving consoles unique gameplay. Would be troublesome to balance, though, and the Dust community can sometimes be really conservative when it comes to any type of movement that would feel out of place in Call of Duty.
Yes, you could have mouse and keyboard support for console, but at that point the main advantage of releasing it on those systems would evaporate. (With that advantage being the large amount of players that could play the game without additional setup)
Actually, as an aside, how the hell would the Dust dropship work with mouse and keyboard? Wouldn't it be somewhat unwieldy? |

The game is still likely a year or so out, I'm against anything that pushes that further and lowers the quality of the PC version. Xbone Scorpio... Better specs than most PC's, lol... Not sure how much lowerering would be needed compared to your "average" pc gamers setup. Please don't start this.
The people who complain about lowered quality settings are not the people who have a PC that's weaker than the Xbox Scorpio. Its hardware is already below the high-end of the mainstream PC gaming market.
Yes, it will be getting much more use out of its weaker hardware than a PC ever could, and its shared system memory gives it an edge as long as it's optimized for, but that fact won't stop the shitstorm. In fact, if you go down that avenue of arguments, the discussion will just devolve into ****-flinging about proprietary vs open systems. |
