To this day I still enjoy discussing Dust meta in addition to brainstorming ideas. This is not a Nova suggestion thread, but obviously I wouldn't mind if someone important took a look.
The basic idea is to offer an extra choice for the Logi's lone weapon slot.
The basic concept is: if you choose to put a sidearm in the light weapon slot, the weapon will stay active and dual wield alongside equipment. R1 would fire the weapon, and L1 would "fire" the equipment instead of aiming down sights.
Balancing factors: -Can't ADS, so no super pro headshot Bolt Pistol shenanigans -Since it's only in one hand, hipfire accuracy is greatly reduced (so no aim assist/bullet magnetism Bolt Pistol shenanigans)
In theory I'd still choose a Combat Rifle + Six Kin Triage reps. It's better to add DPS until heals are needed. However I can see this system as an interesting option for sticking to a squadmate with Core Focused reps, as I'd be able to keep repping the heavy and still somewhat defend myself at very close range (accuracy should make anything near useless/a gamble past shotgun range).
Ferroscale stacked Min Logis could spider tank pretty hard with this, but at the same time they wouldn't be very lethal. In addition Amarr Logis would have the "combat Logi" advantage of fighting normally with a light weapon but being able to switch to dual wielded sidearm/EQ when working with equipment (mid-fight rep hives, anyone?)
Anyways that's my cool idea. Give me all of your constructive criticism/tweaks.
(And no I'm not a BP hater. I had it at Prof. 5 and used it extensively on all Sentinel loadouts, I'm just aware of how good it was at range in the right hands. The Magsec was also arguably the best stand-alone sidearm if your primary was an AV weapon.)

You'd have to be doing a good amount of DPS with your sidearm to make that the better option than swapping to your light weapon to kill the red and then repping your teammate. And if the DPS from the sidearm was that good to make that the better option, no one would bother running light weapons on Logis since the sidearm would offer better utility. Unless the primary concern of the Logi is killing, in which case they would just run a slaying suit like Assault or Heavy.
Having to sacrifice your ability to defend yourself to rep someone was part of the meta too, since you could force a Logi to break reps by engaging him. If Logi's could defend themselves effectively whilst repping then that meta is gone.
I think the great difficulty would be in finding the sweet spot in DPS to make it not so low that that it's useless, but also not so high that it becomes superior to switching to your light weapon. In order to hit that sweet spot you'd probably have to change the damage/functionality of the sidearms rather than their accuracy when used by the duel-wielding Logi, which would upset the meta for sidearms overall.

So why aren't you logi's just communicating the existence of the enemy to your heavy and having your heavy kill the redberry like you're supposed to?
Did you guys ever see the unstoppable duo of a shotgun logi and a heavy? Ya know the one where the logi was hella OP against scouts because he had a shotgun too and a bunch of EWAR mods so he'd pick the scout up before he even got around the corner and as soon as the scout steps around the corner the logi just drops him with a shotty and goes back to repping? Was that not OP enough guys? Now you wanna let the logi shoot and rep at the same time? You already rep for 150hp/s? Now you want to be able to dish out dps at the same time?

All good points.^
I wanted to create a situational option for when having reps on most of the time is ideal, like using a Core Focused on an HMG guy pushing (or defending) the point.

I've never seen that setup, but it sounds bad. Assaults were the main threat to Logis, and having a Shotgun just to counter Scouts that you could take down just as easily with a CR is silly. Plus there was a long delay between turning off reps and switching to the weapon. Building enough precision to see a Scout coming makes you more fragile to, guess what, Assaults.
And you're exaggerating when you say "dish out DPS at the same time". You saw the caveats to this, right? Do you think you'd win against a SG Scout or even an Assault with a gimped sidearm? Would a straight up damage penalty be more in line?
As I said, it's a situational option. There is no pro-logi agenda, so you can stop saying "you guys".

It would be kind of sweet if you could simply dual wield pistols by putting pistols in both the Primary and Sidearm slots. #RiseOfTheGunslingers

Same deal as anything else. I considered not having a penalty when deployables are out, but there'd be many problems with REs, rep hives, etc and still fighting well.

I mean how would you carry them? You need two hands to carry a nanohive.

I don't think it's too far-fetched for a high powered suit to be able to carry a nanohive with one hand.
I'm mostly discussing the meta aspect of this idea.

I think it might be too powerful with weapons like the mass driver.
You never need to aim down the sights with the mass driver, and the mass driver has no spread, only arc.

Reread OP, the dual wield only applies to sidearms.
Though you make a good point; the Flaylock would make a really good candidate even with an accuracy penalty.

Ah. I was saying that I would still prefer the traditional loadout for general use. Knowing whether to have my weapon out or equipment out was something I mastered pretty well.
The rep tool honestly looked like a one-handed object that produces no recoil, so I thought it would be cool to have that and a pistol in the other hand.

Good question...
I guess there would just be a repeated stab instead of the swish-stab. Would theoretically pull off the same DPS with uncharged spam, but only get one strike out of a charged hit.

I would very much prefer we don't have people cloaked and shooting, however weak it may be. Dunno exactly how it should go down mechanically, but I think they simply shouldn't work simultaneously.
