And a bit more on my previous post, let's consider the feedback regarding the demo. If I had to sum it up, it would be something like:
"It felt good to play, but pretty generic. We'd like to see what more it can offer and what makes it distinctively a 'CCP New Eden' game"
Back then, when Nova was first announced and demoed, everyone here in the forums was practically ok with generic simply because we were all surprised that it had minimal lag, was operating on a Steam Client with Unreal Engine 4 while connected to a server in Germany as Dennie Fleetfoot pointed out. All of this while running very smoothly for a seemingly hectic fight. Considering the hell we all went through with Dust 514 from closed beta to open beta all the way to its shutdown, we were far more happy with "generic but stable" rather than "different but messy." Of course, that was a long time ago. Now? The next time when we hear about Nova, a lot of us here no longer want to hear "generic but stable" and instead we want to hear "stable AND different." After all this time since the news, I don't want to see a generic shooter anymore.
Indeed. We are sadly conditioned to expect very little in terms of performance and are thus impressed if it runs half decently haha. Regardless though, the game has to perform in the upper percentile for non-dust vets to even give it the time of day, especially on PC. And once they have that, the really must make it feel different, particularly if the target market is FTP FPS games....you really gotta stand out in order to succeed.

It has probably been closer to a year and a half since Nova development, and even then, that is not a lot of time in terms of game development. I would say, from what I know, 4 and 5 years is pretty average for a game to be developed. Hopefully they have some blurb on what they have been working on, and next step goals. But we can't forget that CCP Shanghai now has FPS experience and they know their mistakes this time around. They know what ****** up Dust and the presentation of Legion. They have the assets as well. The difference here is that they have to rebuild the entire base code from scratch. So that alone might seem to make your case a little more likely because developing a brand new base code and ditching the old one (the infamous legacy code that partly sealed the fate of Dust) must have been a very difficult choice for them. But everyone knew it was for the better. If Dust had any hope to emerge as Nova on the PC, it needed a new code and a new engine on a platform that CCP has over a decade working on.
If they have to start from scratch that will take them 2 to 3 years to build.
And when did they start on making nova.
I think I need to do something else till then.
Well there still is the dustforums.

Assume about 1.5 years of production (including the time spent to develop the tech demo)
Also assume the reuse of a lot of assets from Dust.
Draw you conclusions from that.
Also, yes, go do something else. Not like the game will go away.

That's what I'm talking about. They develop it for 1.5 year and with the assets of DUST. They should release a beta after FANFEST.

What has brought you to that conclusion? Do you know the scope of the game? What features are being included? How do you know that 1.5 years is sufficient time to complete everything they have planned for the beta?

Hmmm, let me think... they don't work on DUST anymore, and they have its assets. So 1.5 - 2 years are enough for a beta.

Do you know the scope of the game? What features are being included? How do you know that 1.5 years is sufficient time to complete everything they have planned for the beta? To be fair, they could probably release a Beta after FF. Cos they do have the assets and a bunch of the older code from dust. Of course its not gonna be a total copy and paste job cos not everything will translate, but in saying that these guys have the knowledge of how to do this fast cos they have probably used unreal for several years at least (Assuming they are using unreal 4 ofc). The only problem is, we don't know how much has been done. For all we know they could have added in loads of features, which again may not be a stretch to assume, cos that demo at fanfest did have a few of the mechanics from DUST.
So unless they are just working on the FPS side of things, i think we can assume that features have been added. What they are and to what extent remain to be seen. I do however doubt that we will get a Beta shortly after FF, but one can hope.

They did not start developing project nova from scratches. I do not agree with this opinion. Acctully I doubt that this is even someones opinion(of us). It was something that rather was transferred to the public by CCP, and from that moment is thoughtlessly passed on, share, by some of the forum individuals.
You will get 'close to nothing' on FanFest because: no one ever in human history tried to sold game with planned profit, that look exacly same as a game that bankrupted just a year ago.
CCP eventually will release 'new' game, but it just have to be more then what we experienced on various levels.

CCP won't even acknowledge that's an actual game, they're still sticking to a very non-committal "It's just a project and not a sure thing". I just don't see them going from that public stance to "oh hai, here is a Beta" in a month.
Hell the game will likely need to go through a Closed alpha first.

Hey now, no one is an idiot for feeling that way. I just don't want people to misunderstand the situation and feel let down.
As I said, be optimistic about the project as a whole, just don't have too high of expectations for the immediate future.

I don't get this prototype not really a game yet claim.
Just from a business stand point you can't for 2-3 years be going "IDK maybe we will do something with the millions upon millions of dollars we are putting into this project, or maybe we will just throw it in the garbage."
At this CCP is either doing something with Nova or they are not.
