As we were discussing things in the discord it got me interested again in how things could be in nova if/when that happens. I havent posted in the dust forums in a while so im going to just get right into this. all in all it should similar to EVE in terms of mechanics and gameplay
Dropsuits - instead of all tiers of dropsuits being able to be used in pubs, it could be based on what sec status your fighting in. for example low/null there are no limits, .5-.6 limited up to advanced and .7 and up you are limited up to advanced.
- the only non bonused suit would be militia which is equivilant to corvettes -basic frames (instead of no bonus) have only a class bonus for thier race. -specialized suits have a slightly different look but still the same base stats and class bonus but with a specialized bonus. -anything t3 (if there were any) have thier own bonus' and base stats depending on what it is (sort of like t3 cruisers or dessies)
for t3 dropsuits, similar to eve in a way, have a different skill set specific to the T3 and when lost one of them skill points is lost. giving people a reason to not use this in so commonly in pubs, but more for PC or FW.
Modules - instead of the base modules we had we could have them in different sizes for different classes and etc. for example for shields and armor, small, medium, large for light, medium, heavy frames - each and every class can fit any of the other sizes but if its class is smaller than the modules recommended size than it can be fitted at the cost of pg or cpu.
- repair tools can keep thier short range, but each of the logi's should have a shield or armour repair range and repair amount.
Passive skill points -if kept, keep it to one character per account. - something similar to eve if we want more than one account to be able to have multiple clones gain passive SP then have some sort of multi clone training like the Pilot's service for multi pilot training. - do away with instant training of skills, and implement the training que of some sort.
cant remember if im missing anything but im sure i got the majority down.

all of the above and,
make nova like eve subscription,
alpha and omega clone model,
nova alpha clones can only use militia and basic stuff,
but can join fw and pc,
make isk and aurum equal in both games,
to make the connection to eve and nova perfect,

Why do people keep recommending a hybrid subscription model? I really don't think CCP needs that in order to profit from Nova.

Not like we haven't delt with that before, oh wait, I have in a FTP, voluntary micro trans for boosts, it was called Dust.(WOT) It was only truly fair if you could pay. I did pay to play, for my character and to support game development. About 300 bones over 3 years. And I would do it again. How else can a game be built and paid for?
I personally can afford to pay up front for a one time purchase. Like finished games used to be. And honestly I liked the monetary model CCP had for dust, it was (un)fairly reasonable for what one recieved and good in the fact you always needed more to feed your char quick, and at least for me you had to spend more to compete. It seems everyone did have more than you, to have more options faster in game. SP made the game great, also was its down fall. Shrugs.
Blinded by a 10 year plan I suppose. I hate marketing BS now more than ever lul. There is very little trust left for consumers IMO. Thanks CCP for trying, but we didn't have that big finish together. You were a sweet talkin bi tch
Nova better put out or get out, if she wants ride with me.
First day open beta. I used to play for the points.

Hard to make new roles for a FPS game. It pretty much revolves around killing, how to kill, how to help kill, or how to prevent killing. Would probably need to design roles around gameplay outside of that, but then you'd need to design gameplay outside of that core element as well.
As an example: if Eve didn't have Industry, mining/industrial ships wouldn't be necessary.

Power cores were an idea to make Dust work on the PS3. I don't think something like that will be necessary on PC, but o do hope that they keep a system that at least has the potential for a port, ie something not so ridiculously inefficient.
I also hope we get back to something where decisions matter, where people can't simply have a closetful of different photon classes to FotM chase, and that the high end gear being used in game is not the norm, and isn't profitable outside high end game modes.

I heard rumor of a 90 minute NOVA tea bagging gag reel that was going around internally at CCP. Apparently tea bagging was going to be a pivotal aspect of the game. I don't know the intended mechanic there, but the vid included graphically detailed scrotes that were available with a variety of upgrades, even quafe. God, I hope this doesn't make it into the final cut. |

Two comments on the original post:
1) On gear restrictions in High Sec, I suppose that would be because Proto gear is restricted to Government Military and Concord only. Such restrictions would not be applied in Low or Null Sec.
2) Switching from instant trained skills using save up skill points to a training queue would help to dampen Flavor of the Month chasing.
