That sounds interesting, care to explain more?

Hi!
So yeah Im actually working on an article for Biomassed that goes more in depth, but the general idea is such.
Instead of having huges battles with 100+ people on a map so large that you'll likely never see or directly interact with most of those players, lets take advantage of the interesting setting that EVE online offers.
As a simple example, let's just assume there are planet battles for the sake of simplicity.
OVERALL OBJECTIVE: Destroy Orbital Satellite
Battle A:
16 vs 16 Battle on the ground, players fighting to take control on an orbital artillery which can fire into space to attack the orbital satality. Defenders try to prevent attackers from capturing the controls. If the Attackers capture and hold the controls, it will fire on the orbital satellite until it is destroyed.
Battle B:
16 vs 16 Battle in an orbital satellite which is positioned in space floating over the area that Battle A is taking place in. Players fight to take control of the station.
The major objective in Battle B gives that team control of the satellite cannons. Whichever side has control of those cannons gives their team in Battle A the ability to call in Orbital strikes. Having the ability to call in strikes will greatly help the corresponding team in Battle A. So the success of a team in Battle B will greatly help their chances of their side in Team A being successful.
This is of course an extremely simple example, Im not going to get into all the possibilities or details for this post, but I think you can see what Im getting at. The battles are not necessarily happening on the same map or even the same instance, but the results of each can be critical to the results of the other.
This line of thinking stems from what the original intent of the EVE link provided. You have a battle in space with EVE ships where the winner is allowed to drop orbitals for the ground forces to help them win. This is more or less the same concept but it moves the EVE battle in space and changes it to be a Nova battle on a space station. It still offers that "Large Universe" feel while keeping the game self contained and not reliant on EVE for that kind of content.
Additionally it provides some interesting options for links that otherwise may not have worked as well for an EVE-linked battle, such as firing artillery from one map to cause damage to an objective in another, or capturing a secondary objective to allow another map to access a special kind of utility function.
This also broadens the scope a bit to allow for that coveted "Commander Role". You could perhaps have 4 16v16 battles happening at a given time, effective 2 teams of 64 split up between 4 linked battles. A 65th player could be added to each side as the Commander, who would not necessarily participate directly in the battle, but would instead coordinate between the squad leads in each fight, allocate resources between battles as needed, and have access to abilities and functions that would benefit all allies or hinder all enemies in all the battles.
The commander could bring a level of organization and offer his team strategic planning while the individual battle leaders handle tactical execution. This is of course likely a pretty stretch goal in terms of development, but I think the idea of linked battles leaves room for this level of play.
