If I feel like wasting time on the forums, where else would I go? What have you been reading? I am Reading the Kurtherian Bambit series right now. The author, Michael Anderle, has a true talent for writing dialog (although it gets vulgar) and character development. When I read the early books I had to overlook a lot of copy-editing issues, but the second book in the series was written in 9 days (it took me 3 days to read it) so you can understand it not being very polished. As I understand it, he has had someone go back and copy-edit the early books since I read them. The later books have gone through a sort of closed Beta were volunteers read and copy-edit them before release on Amazon, so they are a bit better. The series is a nice mix of Fantasy and Sci-Fi (Vampires, and Werewolves, and Aliens... Oh my!) Anyway, the author is really good at giving you an emotional connection to the characters, so definitely worth the read.
Before that I re-read the entire Kris Longknife series including the spinoffs, before reading the latest book "Bold". This latest book creates a nice ending for the series and raps everything up nicely. Of course the characters at the end of the book are taking bets at how long Kris will stay retired before she gets bored and comes out or retirement, and the author says he is already working on the next Kris Longknife book, so it may be more of an intermission than an end, but it is nice to have all the loose ends tied up in a satisfactory manor.
My favorite series is Nathan Lowell's Golden Age of the Solar Clipper series (First book is called "Quarter Share"). Not a lot of blood and violence in this series, but it is captivating. I recently enjoyed reading "Milk Run", the first book in a new series set in the same universe.
If you are more into contemporary Fantasy, Ilona Andrew's "Magic" series is fantastic. "Magic Bites" is the first book.
Hand/Eye coordination cannot be taught. For everything else there is the Learning Coalition.
