Closed beta signup: https://www.greybox.com/dreadnought/en/ps4/
Trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7aNxv15050Y
Okay yeah it isn't a first person shooter, but hear me out
-Starting with a closed beta -Free to Play -5 classes of ships, from heavy dreadnoughts to light "corvettes", even a tactical cruiser with repair beam capabilities -Higher tier ships to unlock with varying stats (similar to how the old advanced/prototype type-A/B suit progression worked) -Tech trees and weapons/abilities you can equip to create your own custom loadouts/playstyles, or to counter other teams -Team battles that are focused on using each class to their full extent, where each ship type plays an important role -Module/cooldowns similar to Dust vehicles, and deployable floating pods similar to dropped equipment
What else does it bring to the table?
-An energy system that can direct power to weapons, shields, or movement speed for brief periods at a time -Space combat, where the enemy can shoot at you from directly above or below you -Warping abilities, either back to your allies, or for rushing at the lone tac cruiser with a barrage of missiles -Defensive energy drain traps and anti-missile/nuke lasers to negate even the biggest threats -Siege mode, where you lose movement speed, but drastically increase damage
Alright but what is it missing?
-No chat channels -Ship visual customization is limited -No objective game modes (not yet at least, they said they want to add them) -No risk to dying in a powerful ship (one time purchase/unlocks for each ship) -No corporation functions, faction battles, or high level/end game pvp atm -Space/low altitude battle arenas are not very complex or interesting
An example of how a battle encounter might play out:
Playing as a Triage Tac Cruiser -healing a few different ships in a small group -friendly dreadnought heads to the outside to flank -enemy corvette decloaks on dreadnought, -uses an EMP to temporaily put all dreadnought abilities on cooldown, and is chewing through the armor -I drop an AoE heal at current position, then warp out to the dreadnought -set power to weapons (increases healing), activate autoheal beams on top of main beams -am now healing faster than the corvette can deal damage. -corvette runs out of energy and starts to flee -I set energy to thrusters to catch up and drop a tractor beam which pulls him back toward the dreadnought -As one final attempt the corvette uses a energy recharge to direct power to weapons and fire on me with an explosive blast -I quickly use my remaining energy to shield a portion of the blast, barely surviving -dreadnought closes in and shreds the corvette to pieces
Here's another:
Playing as a Battle Ram Destroyer -spot lonely artillery cruiser (sniper) -sneak below him -set energy to thrusters -activate battle ram -artillery cruiser spots me but is still in siege mode and can't get out of the way -fires off a barrage of damage enhanced missiles -I activate anti-missile lasers -free kill
If this sounds interesting or fun to you, add me on PSN so I can have some people to squad up with once they start inviting people for the closed beta

I saw something about this game a while ago. It looked interesting and quite unique, it seems that most games these days do their best to not allow loss in their games.
I think this is one of the things that the EVE universe has always been pretty good at. You make a mistake and mess up and you lose some of your assets. It actually makes the grind matter.
This is the turning point, the rising of the tide.

I was absolutely addicted to that game for WEEKS. It was literally one of the most fun games I'd ever played.
And then Progression 2.0 came out and I never opened the game again. ****, the stream where they explained what would happen kept me from even trying the update.
They forced in a tier system like World of Tanks and put in "maintenance" costs that you have to pay or just not use a whole set of ships until a long cooldown timer runs out. They talked up the idea that now there would be 50 ships instead of 15, but those are just the original 15 with some different paintjobs and a few bits of geometry added on to the original model.
****, the group I used to religiously play the game with left en-masse, and the developers have been doing near-constant live-streams when they never used to do any before to try and hold onto what's left of the community while they attempt to find a way to bring their player numbers back up.
I hope they succeed, because they seem like nice people and I don't hold any ill will against them or anything. I just couldn't find any fun in the game anymore after it effectively turned into a World of Warships clone that makes you have to not use the ships you like or pay a HUGE fee if you lose a match.
