Just like most of you guys who still come here to post on these forums, I miss dust. At least I miss the experiences that dust provided and I have had a real hard time finding something similar.
Have any of you played a game called Mechwarrior Online? Its not a traditional FPS game but it has a lot of the great customisation and battle tactics that I used to see in Dust.
It might not be everyones cup of tea but I have found it to mostly fill the hole that dust left.
Also things are changing in the game soon and you will be able to customise your mech to your liking, similar to how the mix of dust fitting and the dust skill system allowed it in Dust 514.
Light, medium, heavy and assault classes provide that differentation of gameplay just like the light medium and heavy dropsuits did.
Give it a try its free to play. (On PC only I think)
This is the turning point, the rising of the tide.

I'd also recommend a mod I used to work on, because some community members have actually figured out the game files and started producing new updates!
https://clanjadewolf.net/mwll/
This is a Crysis Wars total-conversion-mod featuring not just 'Mechs from the Battletech franchise, but also Aerospace Fighters, VTOL Gunships, Tanks and APCs, and Battlearmor (heavy infantry powered-armor suits).
The best part is it's COMPLETELY free! No micro-transactions or anything. You just download that installer which comes with the Crysis Wars demo, and you can just play.

Once you understand the mechanics of the game and give yourself a personal goal (like getting a specific weapon), the game isn't so hard and can be played for hours everyday.
The one major problem of PS2 is the lack of players at certain hours. If there ain't enough players fighting, all the fights become boring as hell. I figured the best fights happen when there are 32 vs 32 players in one area, 64 vs 64 being borderline unplayable, 128+ vs 128+ is a total mess.
On the topic, I might try this game CommanderBolt (nice to see you here btw), once I'm done with the Half Life and Mass Effect series ;)

OK guys,
I know it's completely different to dust, but for me Star Citizen, is the only game I'm hyped about.
It is still a long way from being as intense as Dust was. But the lobby shooter module is going to be released mid December. And it has combat on space stations, including zero g areas in it. It will be still very Alpha. The module is going to be a testbed for the shooter mechanics. Which seem to go for a more realistic aproach. Also the final persistent universe will have permadeath, so tactics will be more important.
But the weapon and suit customizability, that they are aiming for, and the already designed dropships, let me hope for really intense ground, spacestation and boarding combat in the future.
See ya there.

I play ps2, I have to say its similar to Dust, some things are better others aren't. Open maps , graphics and smooth gameplay are pros, cons are little soldier and weapon customization, for example there are no damage modules for weapons, grenades suck, expecially the AV, limitations like you cant fit a light scout with a rifle different from sniper rifle and the same for other tiers.... You should try the game if you really miss Dust, thats what I do now but I really hope and look forward for NOVA the only game I want to play....By the way guys, come all, we can have fun and also create a corp, they just call it "outfi" but its the same... and also I've had the chance to kill Sedat Berat

Nop nothing more than that the DEVs are working on it. Maybe we'll have some christmas announcement, otherwise we'll have to wait for Fanfest 2017 to enlight us !

I have tried planet side 2, destiny and star wars battle front. Here is my lengthy review.
Planet side is a lot like Dust. It even has a cloacking scout and lots of bugs. The pros: -Similar to dust. -some level of customization and leveling up although not as deep as dust. -smooth gameplay
Cons: -Battles never end. It is persiatent so you don't get that feeling of accomplishment. You just have to learn when to put the control down. I've been in a battles for over 3 hours withough gaining an inch of progress -game was made for PC in mind so on the consolethe controls feel cumbersome. -the chat system sucks drangon ballz Z. In over 5 month if I've heard 5 people it would be a lot.
Star wars battle front. I'm still don't know all the ins and out but so far...
Pro: - its star wars -polish game -multiple play modes like mission mode, 6v6, 20v20, hero vs a bunch of people.
Cons: -No squads. As far as I can tell at least. Maybe its there but I don't know how to do it. You can play some missions with a friend but the 20v20 you have to play against - for such a big franchise the game lacks a bit of content. You want to play on the deathstar you have to pay. Dont get me wrong. For any other game this would be ok but for star wars which is a AAA game? not so much.
Destiny Pros: -has a storymode and its pretty decent. -The game is very polished, better than the two above. Much better. Controls are great, animation is smooth etc. -you can squad up with friends and play strikes, story mode or team player vs player.
Cons: -No squad finder. If you want to joing a group of people which you will need to do the strikes you have to onvite your friends or join a group outside of the game. There are even websites for this. This should be in game. - you do level up but it goes by quick. -The rewards for leveling up are an insult. You'll have to beat 15 levels of hell to get a version of your machine gun that has 1 more round than the regular version but, does less damage by about 1 round worth. Oh! and by the way, you'll probably earn a better gun while trying to complete the 15 missions anyways. -Its expensive. I bought the taken king package deal at a reduce cost and I think this was the 4th update and you have to pay for each update. It makes me wonder about how bare the game must had been when it came out. |

Just a heads up, for anybody who is interested to try Star Citizen.
There is a new patch coming up right now. And that is combined with a 48 hour freefly event.
You can just make an account, and try the alpha of Star Citizen for free. The new shooter module is pretty nice so far.
Fluid combat betwheen zero-g and vacuum areas. And pressurized parts of the stations. So far good fun, even with the usual alpha glitches and bugs.
Here is a link to the SC Website
The promo Link is WELCOME2SC
The freefly is only 48 hours long, so better hurry when it's up. |
