Unless you live under a rock, you have probably heard that EVE: Online is going limited free to play starting November 8th. Now I know you're thinking:
"Nova wen" "Needz moar laz0rs" "Console Master Race" "pay 2 win" "What is this thread even about?"
and while I can not answer when Nova will happen, I can answer what this thread will be about.
Starting October 18th, I will begin to create a corporation (name TBD) IN GAME, and I have already started the pre-planning of the corporation.
This means that the game we all heard about but never got to try because of a subscription fee, we will now get to play, unlimited, without the need to pay real money. So now you might be thinking "but people who spend money to stay subscribed to this game will have an advantage". This is NOT TRUE. To extend/start a subscription you must buy a PLEX (Pilot's License Extension). HOWEVER, you can also buy a PLEX with in game ISK for approximately 1.1 bil. Which Clone States you will now have unlimited time to fund a PLEX. Now back to the main topic, the corporation I am creating.
I have already talked to someone I know from EVE, and they will help me make it so that the corporation will have a member limit of 12,600 even though Alpha Clones can only go to a member limit of 20 due to skill restrictions. This means that the corporation can basically take everyone that ever played Dust 514, and still not even be close to being full.
Here will be some of the benefits to joining my corporation: -0.7 security space next to a low sec system meaning that if you want to go to low sec to get some of the more valuable materials you can do so very quickly but if you want a more safe environment, you can also stick to highsec -A variety of agents: This allows new players to do something that suits them and also gives players options to fit their playstyle -Approximately 5 jumps or less from a major trade hub: This means you will need to travel less to get the materials you want and also means that people who are mainly traders/business type people will have access to that as well -3.3% tax rate: A tax rate low enough to keep members from leaving, but high enough so that the corporation can be funded -Hang out with your old Dust buddies!
This is a sneak peek of my pet project and some things that I will address in the coming days/weeks are: - Corporation Name (Please post your suggestions in the comments!) - Leadership Positions: Because I am not an all powerful being (unfortunately) I can not be on EVE 100% of the time, which means that I will need Second in Commands to help fulfill some of the many duties of the Corporate Machine (More info on applying for positions coming soon!) - Website: I will need some help making a website so if you are proficient in website creation I will have need of your help!
If you have questions or want more info, please post your comments below or join the Dust 514 Veterans Discord (please let me know if the link is faulty)!
If you have never played EVE and want to learn about it, I highly suggest visiting the E-UNI Wiki. The corporation that made the wiki is a member of the same alliance that hosted Dust University.
Thank you and I hope to see you starside!

All the great corporations out there, Goonswarm, TEST, NC., they all started somewhere, and so it shall be with us.
As someone who has started 10 or so different trial accounts in EVE since Dust's death, I know that the game is VERY confusing without any help, but once I found someone to tutor me and mentor me, life became so much easier! This will be one of the advantages of making a corp, so that friends can help friends out.
With Clone States, there is no reason to NOT make a new character, and you have unlimited time to earn a PLEX!
Speaking of PLEX, I am going to be implementing a PLEX based jackpot once the corporation has enough money. Of course all profits will go towards the corp and its funding.

Besides, the ships available to F2P players are not that threatening to long time EVE players but get 10 or more with fits and pilots that know what they're doing, and you may see some vets run away. Oh... And prepare for war as there are a ton of "high sec mercs" that love attacking noob corps. I see "high sec mercs" loving F2P players and in turn turning quite a few potential subscribers away. BTW, I am not trying to turn anyone away from trying EVE; just telling you how it is. I am glad that you would be willing to help!
The corporation shall stick together and defend its own, in good times and bad times, and any attacker beware!
On the note of scheduled fleeting, there will indeed be scheduled fleeting, but to attract less spies: I will tell Directors the location and purpose of the fleet beforehand. Then around 5 minutes before we take off, they will tell our FC's location and purpose. And the grunts will live in ignorant bliss :D

It's not much but free is free. I mostly produced by Hek though which could end up being far from where you plan to call home for the corp. Anyway, looks like I have some stuff to look into. *UPDATE: According to the Clone State FAQ, I can log into my previous account as a Alpha Clone. Therefore, I should have access to all my T1 frigates, etc I previously produced. I am now just unsure if I will still have the skills unlocked to produce any more ships. I guess I will see in November. Awesome, sounds good! Any support is welcome!

I do have a completely "unaligned" Gallente Pilot, Jenquilla Viliana, who I could probably join up to the corp, and thereby help out with training of rookies. My EvE main, Nalianna, is already in a player corp, Rogue Clones, as is this one, part of the Yulai Federation head quartered in Providence, so I think she would not be appropriate for our needs. Awesome, we could use some veteran EVE players to help out our newer members!

When the November release is deployed, these accounts and all other trial accounts will be accessible as Alpha Clones. All subscribed accounts will be Omega Clones. All characters on a subscribed account should be available as Omega Clones as I understand it. This is true, I would wait until October 18th, which is exactly 21 days before November 8th, meaning if you make a 21 day trial, once the trial period is over, Alpha Clones would have been implemented meaning that you just basically gave yourself a 21 day headstart.

Actually, Blaziken, how far are you willing to go with this? Engineering Complexes are coming out with that expansion, and the Blueprints will be seeded before the expansion drops. Have you considered building one of those to use as a base of operations?
If we could use donations or other means to scrape together enough ISK to build a Medium to build ships from it could allow us to just roam around not giving a **** about trying to find replacement ships. Obviously there'd be some of us that would need to work on coming up with income, but with enough members I don't think we'd have a problem.
I'd gladly help contribute time to this project. ****, maybe we could get really crazy and try and set up an Azbel(Large) in Molden Heath? Get our old "stomping grounds" back? This is my current vision for the corporation as I see it now, it is subject to change at any time so I would be happy for suggestive criticism.
I'm going to set up the corp in a system that is in highsec, relatively safe, it is 4 jumps from one of the major trade hubs, has fairly good asteroid belts, is right next to a low-sec system in case you want to risk your ship to mine some more valuable ore, and is 8 jumps from nullsec.
The station I am planning on renting has everything a station needs, industry, ship repair, you name it, so it can cater to players of all playstyles.
Once we grow a bit, we will run frequent fleet ops into nullsec where we will attack anyone and everyone just for the purpose of practice.
After the corp's ability to work together as a fleet improves, we will return in force to take back Molden Heath and our old "stomping grounds" will be ours once more and we can get to building Engineering Complexes/Citadels/whatever. After that, then we will see about getting some territory in nullsec.
Keep in mind, all of this is months upon months of work, so it will require a dedicated group that will not give up for anything and will keep on fighting till the end.

Without established contacts with cheap moon materials though, I could not build T2 ships like I wanted. It would cost twice as much to produce than it would be to just buy the ships outright. That was one thing that frustrated me about EVE. I then moved on to missioning; mostly transport missions through hostile areas. It was quite the rush for a while as I had some sweet transport fits. Anyway, I am hoping to put my previous build up to good use in November. Sweet

Might be able to convince our CEO to jump on new project with the chance for lots of PvP. This is entirely true. However I want to establish the corporation as being capable of running itself before even considering an alliance, because alliances do not want defunct corporations.

Alena Asakura wrote:Nomed Deeps wrote:DJIPS wrote:I want to know your purpose.
What are you going to do after establish the corporation ? Not meaning to speak for OP but it appears the mere purpose is to simply have a common EVE corp for previous DUST players to experience EVE together. As corp recruits will be from DUST, I would guess PVP and attack missions would be primary focus but I am just guessing. In truth though, if there are a lot of players that get involved, we could branch into multiple areas of play although the Alpha Clone tree appears to be quite limited. "Limited" is in the eye of the beholder. Dust players tend to think in terms of mixing and matching racial gear to the task. So, in truth do some EvE players. But initially, all EvE players start off as one race or another and have to train to expand out. While they're still exploring their initial race, though, they have a lot of experience to obtain just on that race's ships and weapons. It's not just about the weapons, for instance, it's also about tactics. A Gallente ship is armour tanked, and uses blasters and drones. There's a reason for this. The drones are used for attacking en masse while the ship gets in close (armour is good for that) and hits hard with the blasters (strongest weapons in the game for their size), which are similar to the Assault Rifle in technology. These are then the tactics of Gallente, heavily armour tanked and fast to get in close quickly and armed with blasters to do the most damage up close. Blasters have short range but tremendous damage, so getting in close is necessary. Contrast that with Caldari, who are all about kiting and light tank (shields) with rapid repair. They stay out of range of opponents weapons and lob long range missiles and rail gun charges. Rail guns have range over blasters, but at reduced effectiveness, similar to the Rail Rifle. Caldari win EvE battles by sheer persistence and attrition of the enemy, where Gallente win by hitting hard and fast. So it comes down to a battle of tactics and strategies, not just a matter of who has the most powerful weapon and best armour. Within the limitations of each race's Alpha Clone, I think there's quite a deal of scope. You only get to fly that race's ships and use that race's weapons, but they suit each other, used in concert with that race's tactics and strategies, so you can still be very effective until you decide to pay for upgrade to an Omega Clone. Not just that, but you have unlimited time to make a good ISK stream, and by that time you will have more than enough ISK to fund PLEXes.

DIinkelFritz wrote:Sounds good Big B. The Eternal Noxium Imperium is recruiting for November. A few Eve Veteran friends of mine are going to log back on. Been playing EvE for two years before Dust Came out. In fact my Dust toon is a member. I normally help out new players in EvE and would welcome a chance to get my fellow Dust players in a chat room to answer questions. As for H.O.N.K., or whatever name is ultimately decided, my corp will stand by you guys, alliance or otherwise. =) Thanks :D

I have a few eve accounts I'll throw into the pot of it helps keep the community together. I make a fair amount of isk off incursions on my main account too so if you let me join I can help out a lot with financing the newb ships and jackpot program. Don't get me wrong, I'm not eve rich by any means, but I'll have a hell of a lot more money than the new guys joining. I've also been playing eve for about 5 years now on and off so I have a fair amount of experience with things like fleet ops, exploration, mining, PVE ect..... Awesome, hope to see you starside! Well, having been in Dust corps with both you guys, I might just hit y'all up for this. Got a paid EVE account a few weeks back... Sounds cool, hope to see you there. Our public channel is HONKcom

Fox Gaden wrote:Been thinking about starting a new EVE account just to try out the improved New Player Experience. The NPE was almost non-existent when I started in 2008.
That and the fact that the last time I came back to EVE after a long absence I got most of my expensive ships blown up before I learned to play again. So I am thinking that if I decide to go back to EVE it might be best to start fresh with a new account, and then go back to my old account after I got the hang of things again.
... so, if I start a new account, I will likely join H.O.N.K.
Sounds great man, hope to see you, we could definitely use people to help our newer players out

Nomed Deeps wrote:I was planning on getting involved with H.O.N.K. but been pretty busy with real life lately. The little time I've had for gaming I've spent on Battlefield 1 as I recently reconnected with a few DUST players on it. Anyway, I am on vacation next week where I will have some extended down time to finally get on EVE. I hope everyone in H.O.N.K. is having fun with EVE as that is the true factor whether or not players will keep playing. Like DUST, don't sweat dying that often and definitely don't sink all your ISK into a single fit as you are almost guaranteed to lose it. o7
Hopefully sometime real life will relax and you and you can come and fly with us!

If I ever find time to play eve again (Especially considering the Alpha clone stuff) then I may well be interested in joining up with DUST bros. 34ish members and counting!
