You can pile up as much ISK as you want but true earned SP does not exist in that IP. Other shooters paled in comparison to Dust 514. Dust 514 actually rewarded you for YOUR accomplishments and that is what we want. We took the beatings of our predecessors and grew to hunger for more through our ordeals. Nothing will make us as salty as Dust514. Or feel as rewarded. That's an interesting discussion point, and I know it's come up before.
Many have talked about the pros and cons of time-based skill learning vs. experiential advancement. In EvE, the concept is that ALL learning is done through a sort of direct neural injection of skills which takes time dependent on your own personal receptivity to the attributes of that form of training, being memory, intelligence, willpower or perception, all of which can be changed periodically to allow faster learning of certain types of skills.
What has always been lacking in EvE is the concept that the more you do something the faster you learn it - experience based learning. I guess it worked for EvE where it was tied in with the account management that allowed (usually) only one character at a time to experience skills training. But in Dust it failed to provide the sort of fast track you expect from doing an awful lot of any one thing at a time
I have suggested in the past, for instance, that as well as pure time-based skill training, which is still a reasonable concept even in Dust, that there be an experience-based component which increases the user's skill level with appropriate weapons and devices with familiarisation through use, and conversely deteriorates that skill with lack of use, just like you would expect from any sort of experience-based skill, which tends to be enhanced by habitual use and deteriorates if you don't use it for a while.
So far I haven't heard any sort of positive response to this idea. I guess it's possible it's just too hard for CCP, or perhaps they're too set in their ways with their skill training. It's possible they can't actually implement this feature without a lot of recoding. Either way, it hasn't seen the light of day, but I'm still hopeful... |
