What are your opinions on that? From what I read it just look like a no timer demo, something to give newbies extra time if they should suscribe or not. Well that and have them use Plex.

Dev Blog: INTRODUCING CLONE STATES AND THE FUTURE OF ACCESS TO EVE ONLINE
It's a psuedo Free 2 Play, I like to call the method The Runescape Model.
Basically they give F2P players limited access to skills, locked into the race their character is, only Tech 1, up to Cruiser class vessels.
I think it'll be an interesting change, I don't agree with the locking into 1 race, I'd rather just see them limit them to Tech 1 up to Cruisers, and adjust some Skill Requirements on some items
Khanid Logi and Tanker, sometimes AV Heavy or Sniper.

I wonder if they'll release beta clones which have slightly more access to skills but costs less per month then the alpha clones

I think it goes like this for Tech 1 attack ships: - Frigate - Destroyer - Cruiser - Battlecruiser - Battleship The above does not count industrials or shuttles; just attack ships. CCP is just trying to spark interest hoping to lead to subscription while giving the vets fodder to shoot at. It's a good idea but they likely would have not made the hundred bucks off me they did if I had this option. I am not saying EVE is not a good game but it seemed to me it needed more time than I could devote to it. Sure, you can do stuff by yourself but to make contacts, hold them, and participate in the bigger things EVE hypes, you need to put the time in.

Dreis ShadowWeaver wrote:Can't wait I think it will be really good. It will get many more people playing EvE who would have been stopped by the expense in the past, and since 15/21 days really is no time at all for training in EvE. At least this way, F2P players will get a taste of how good it can be with a bit of training under the belt. Even if people decide to just keep playing F2P, they will add to the populace of New Eden and that can't be a bad thing. |

I did have some fun and excitement in EVE. Hopefully others will too. And for those that have never played that plan to once F2P is available, my small piece of advice: Watch those lowsec bottlecaps. You never know what you're going to see when you jump inside (but it'll likely be a group of reds who want to kill you only for being there and the fact they can).

The Cynabal is a common Cruiser that requires Gallente Cruiser Level IV & Minmatar Cruiser Level IV. Apparently an Alpha clone will be able to train up to Level IV for either of these skills without a subscription. If an Alpha clone were allowed access to more than one race without a subscription then some of these ships will be too easily accessible to the Alpha clone player.
You could argue that the effectiveness of such ships would only be hindered by the Alpha clone's inability to train up Tech 2 weapons and modules which no doubt means that an Alpha clone will never be able to perform at the same level as that of an Omega clone but such an argument will only reinforce the reasoning behind locking Alpha clone players to one race. Nobody will ever want to fit T1 modules and turrets on a pirate faction ship and expect to be taken seriously when they join a fleet or go into a solo roam in low-sec with such a crap fit.
Let's also not forget that pirate faction ships are never cheap. The Cynabal, at current Jita prices, is going for ~170 million ISK.
Now let's say you downgrade to a Frigate. Even then you're looking at spending ~80 million ISK for a Worm. First-time players would look at all of these prices and say "frakk it, I'm not gonna spend my entire wallet just for a ship that I may just lose tomorrow."
Keep in mind that these prices are just for the hulls alone.
