Hey guys n gals, If and when Nova actually becomes a playable game on the PC I recommend the use of this NIFTY software...
http://ds4windows.com
Get that PS4 Bluetooth Controller maped to your PC.
Easy and free, If you have advanced knowledge you can even mess around with the source code of the software to make things better then how you want them. With that being said source code that is not familiar to you should never be touched one wrong input will cause a crash or error if the value is not correct. So i only recommend this to experienced coders such as myself. If you dont know what source code is then dont bother trying to edit it. Just use the base software its still great stuff.
Hope it helps a few of you out, Keyboards and joysticks just aint nearly as accurate or consistent as controllers. After all we all hate having to look down at the keyboard, or pressing the wrong damn button because your using your brains key touch ability by memory. Stuff always goes wrong with keyboards.
Anyways, look forward to seeing you all within the Project.
Once i get a crack on the codes and values of profiles i will show a select few how to become beast mode without ever being tracked AKA Kaizuka Sniper.
PS4 would have protected Nova from this, but PC just leaves it wide open just as ps3 did.
Enjoy and o7 mercs!

I'm not a huge fan of mouse and keyboard... But the problem you mention here is not down to the input device... Also I've seen people have the same issue with gamepads.
If I'm feeling nice I'd say more practice is needed with the input device.
But I'm not so I just say too stupid. |

. If you're going to use a gamepad/joystick , i suggest you don't use a ps4 controller. Best option would be Xbox1 ( already p.c compatible & responsive to all p.c mappings ) , Logitech F310 ( feels like ps3 six axis analog sticks , bad part : have to re configure every time you restart the computer up ) .... or if you balling ( keyboard/mouse ) logitech G13

I myself can see how kbm is the best for use with games like EvE Online that are somewhat abstracted by the presence of a computer interface interpreting everything for you and performing all the flight controls as if you had a crew and all you were doing was issuing orders. But put me in the position of actually controlling something, as in direct input, and I will go for a controller every time. The analog sensitivity with a controller is just superior. The only thing kbm has over a controller is that the mouse is much more accurate for aiming. If there was some facility to aim using some form of positional control (like a mouse) with a controller, even this drawback would be eliminated. |

I do prefer controllers for immersion and feel, however, my feeling is that when it comes to PC, its "When in Rome..."
It would be nice if there could be a way to even the playing field, but I don't think that is realistic at this point.

Familiarity. I used to play FPS with a joystick back in 97-01. Hated the mouse and keyboard, but I had to adapt because of the fact that my preferred method of control was too expensive to buy at the time. So I learned how to KBM on the original counterstrike. After a few months I forgot why I cared in the first place.

Hey jett, I, like that you're spreading good info to the forums, as using a game padder to run a controller on a PC game is a plus if we'll try to convince future players that came from console gaming to play this game.
However, be careful as the controller might not be as good you think it is in a game where it's use is not primarily targeted, just saying.

This is assuming they include controller support...
And if they do... I might like the challenge.
The best idea would be to make analog movement more useful, so it offsets movement against aim... Never have liked digital movement. |

Thanks beast,
I know what ya mean, but no way to tell really until nova drops. I have had nothing but 100% positive feedback using the PS4 controller mapped to my pc. Used on many FPS pc games and its as if i am playing on the ps4. Cant say that for nova yet but i am fairly certain it will perform well on xbox1 or ps4 controllers that have been mapped properly.
What made dust, dust was the community and hopefully with neat software like this we can salvage a few good players.
Really look forward to seeing ya'll in nova if it ever comes out.

Kinda hoping that controller support will be there. Dust was quite probably the only game that I used all 3 input devices routinely:
keyboard for movement
mouse for gun aim
controller stick for gun installations ( try rotating 360 with a mouse - not ! )

I found this new software, it allows you to speak a players name in voice input and your player will then track and gun them down without even moving the analog once lol...
Take that keypad users lol
But i do realize a lot of you like keypads / keyboards I mainly posted this one for those that really liked the controller aspect of dust.
Dont get me wrong i used my keyboard to play dust a lot but never found it as effective. Thats just me guys obviously a lot of you are like keypad or nothing but i personally know many players that wanted to quit just because they think they have to play on the keyboard. well thats not the case.
PC to ps3/ps4/xbox360/xbox1 controller software is free and easily available for you guys :)

Word of advice to anyone planning to use a controller for nova... Don't In the old days, I used to play Doom on PC and would use a kbm setup for that. I remember it worked fairly well, and the best part about it was the mouse for aiming. The worst part about it was the digital nature of the movement control - it was go or stop, nothing in between. I guess if you are used to just running or sprinting everywhere, then that's going to be the same with a controller anyway, but if you want fine control over such things, a controller will still be better.
The main issue would be how do you use a controller AND a mouse at the same time? I would think you could only use the left side of the controller (like the PS Move Navigator) and use the mouse for everything the right side of the controller did.
It was obvious some people in Dust were using kbm - their accuracy was just freaky. I could easily see how a mouse would make things so much better than a joystick for aiming. You could get close to that sort of accuracy with a joystick but it's never going to be the point-and-click accuracy of a mouse. |

I have to strongly disagree even tho i like your prior posts. My reason is simple, lets say jonny spawns on a CRU with a crowd of 5 enemies camping that CRU well with a mouse you gotta point and click each target well with a controller its just open fire spray each and every one of them type thing.
Maybe a mouse for Sniping yes i would agree but poor old jonny was using a mouse point and click with his hmg and was only able to damage one at a time...
As many say it all depends on your playing style vehicles, sniping, CQC or just whatever.
I find the controller works great across all aspects where as mice, keyboards/keypads and joysticks can and often times leave you very vulnerable across different aspects of playing styles.

I know i have done it many times with a mouse, the circular motion that is, not near as effective as a controller analog for spraying a crowd. A controller is far superior when dealing with all aspects of the game. where as mice and keypads/joysticks are only good for certain things not saying they cant do everything just saying they always flaw on certain aspects of different playing styles.
Anyways. I like em all.

As others have already pointed out, it has far more to do with familiarity (muscle memory) than advantages. Some players are just way better at playing a FPS with a controller instead of a mouse & keyboard and vise versa because of this.
Now let's look at something else here. Imagine a combat simulator like War Thunder where a joystick is be highly recommends yet there are people who can handle a plane with a mouse & keyboard instead.
What about VR equipment? In a combat simulator like War Thunder, most players are content with using just a combination of a monitor and a directional switch on a HOTAS joystick. They seem to be doing just fine with that. However, as one player in the X-Plane 10 community said: "Once you go VR you never go flat." This is because of the depth perception and the freedom of camera movement with just your head instead of taking your hands off the normal controls. You can maneuver better while still training your eyes on the target, account for your own aircraft's structure blocking your view of a target as you chase them, and catch anyone trying to sneak up on you while still maintaining a sufficient frame of reference. Takeoff and landing in VR is even better because you can judge speed and distance more effectively (although that's what the instruments are for). It's almost tempting to wonder why some combat simulator players are not using VR until you recall how much that HTC Vive cost ($900 with shipping & tax).
