Sylwester Dziewiecki wrote:It will kill EVE online as we know it. Mark my words. Why do you think that? You will only be able to train basic skills for your faction as an Alpha clone. That will allow a heap of new players to experience EvE on at least three different factions, more if they set up additional (free) accounts. You will need to subscribe to access all skills as an Omega clone, exactly as a full subscription works today.
This will give anyone who wants to try EvE the ability to do so, anyone who wants to just use basic faction skills without the need for subscription to do so, and anyone who wants the full experience to subscribe and do so. How will this kill EvE as we know it, which is basicly the fully subscribed Omega clone? Surely this Omega clone experience is "EvE as we know it", and won't change, as far as I can see... |

Mobius Wyvern wrote:Sylwester Dziewiecki wrote:It will kill EVE online as we know it. Mark my words. It will have no negative effect whatsoever. The DevBlog already details all the limitations of Alpha Clones, their intent to keep watch for problems with botting or ganking, and practically PLEADS for players to give as much feedback as possible to help them make the system balanced at release. Post constructively in the Comments thread to help them develop the feature. Agreed Mobius. For those of us with active advanced subscriptions, we can already see that the Omega clone is just the same as we already have, and won't change, other than cosmeticly to allow the introduction of the "default" Alpha clone state. I myself am planning to trial letting my subscription lapse and going back to Alpha on both my Caldari and Gallente mains, just to see what it's like. I don't plan to leave them that way, but it would be nice to see what the limitations are.
I'm particularly excited that CCP haven't lost the significance of factions - the Alpha clones will be limited to their own faction (race) just as I have always envisaged a new "clone-in-training" would be from day one, and will only have access to other races/ ships/ technologies through upgrading to Omega. I think the naming "Alpha" and "Omega" of the two clone states is a bit clunky. What happens with all the states in between - Beta, Gamma, etc? I'd rather see them as "Basic" and "Advanced" or something, but it will still work regardless of the naming.
I see this as a positive step and a way for Dust players to try EvE for free just as they have with Dust, albeit within their own faction - that will give them plenty of training time in which to decide whether they want to go full subscription or stay on Alpha. Positive all round as far as I can see... |

100% This. Everyone crying "Without EVE Integration, it wont be a good as Dust!"
What freaking EVE integration? Was it the orbitals that were barely used and ultimately made nearly obsolete due to the WP barge strikes? Or was it the FacWar that was only a 1 way integration where the only effect was on EVE and did nothing to alter the gameplay in Dust?
To be fair a lot of people came for the supposed / potential integration and stayed because they figured it was going to be a persistent experience and it would be built upon. Later on when it was obvious that was never going to come, you also saw a general bleeding of new players. People could see that the game was poorly coded and with no higher purpose to the game, they just left. Many vets just stayed because they got used to it and grew to like the gameplay despite the total lack of connection. Agreed. It could have been so much more. |
